"Best laptop I've owned in 20 years" on by pauld11
Pros: Fast processor, astonishingly fast SSD drive, silent - no fan nor drive noise, great screen, very light, GPS and WWAN-or-WiMax built in, good battery life, clean no-nonsense looks.
Cons: GPS slow acquiring signal, also fails with default GoogEarth. Had a Verizon WWAN account from last laptop; nightmare transferring that account to the Verzion chip in this one. Multiple calls to Verzion & Lenovo no help; Verizon finally got it done.
Summary: CNET's review doesn't mention that you can disable the touchpad to eliminate the problem they had with accidentally grazing its surface.
I've owned a lot of laptops and used many more. This is by far the nicest. Such a difference the SSD makes in speed. The silence of this laptop is eerie.
The only downside is two months after I bought it Intel came out with the quad-core laptop processors. Oh well, I knew it when I ordered it.
I rarely ever write product reviews but when a product is this good... -
"Best laptop for 2009" on by globalgmcd
Pros: Great viewing screen, light weight, surprisingly fast cpu processing (using 1.4Ghz), great SSD HDD, durable notebook, great keyboard, good variety of ports, excellent software
Cons: Wish it had a SD card, but hey its a super portable computer !
Summary: I have had mainly Toshiba products in the past. Normally their Tecra models, but they cheapen their products over the last years....although had good support. Lenovo just seems to put out an excellent product. My wife had the new Apple Powerbook 15inch. But the aluminium case seems to get poorer wifi signal than my x301. If your thinking of a new notebook and want something for business use, then look no further as this is as best as they come. Just get the highest performing cpu, use max RAM and use Windows 7 and you won't be sorry. With windows 7, my x301 boots up in less than a minute and shuts down in less than 20 seconds. Wow.......that's great performance.

"Looks Good - But I got a Lemon - Failed in Windows XP" on by BarryFree
Pros: Nice lightweight design.Customer Service was anything but and seemed to try hard to make us keep this product beyond the 21 day return period.
Cons: Ordered it with Windows XP installed. We got a Windows Vista set of recovery disk. Opened several tickets relating to various BSOD. The port replicator, TPM, Norton Antivirus all weaked havoc on this PC. To make matters worse the
Summary: Bottom line - Lenovo Support reeks from the top down. If you can't support your product, you should not sell it. Maybe this PC worked well in a Vista environment, all I can testify is it failed poorly in a demanding Windows XP Corporate environment.
Once one error was resolved, another would just pop up. I never say anything like it, having been in the business for 14 years. They wanted to send a tech out to exchange it or fix it. By that time we were through with this heartache. At what point do you admit that the product does not work for a customer and cheefully refund the $$$? -
"I have been very, very pleased with the computer." on by jhibberts
Pros: System worked out of the box. It came with Visa installed. As soon as Windows 7 was available Lenovo sent me a copy. The system upgrade worked flawlessly. It was scary. I have never had a system work without a hic cup.
Cons: If I could get anything changed I would like to get a faster processor. I have to use my T500 for games.
Summary: I have owned a number of laptops, way back to the Butter Fly. I have had no problems with this one. My wife is an Apple fan and just got a MacBook Air. It's cute, but that is all. Not having an optical drive makes for adding software a trick. Like I said earlier a faster processor would be nice. 1.4 gig processor, 4 gig ram, 120 gig SSD, DVD Drive.
