"Excellent choice for business traveler"
Pros: Light weight, solid system
Cons: Some of the IBM utils are clunky, no USB key boot
Summary: I've has my X31 for a year. I believe it to be the best system for the weight. With 512Mb of memory it does all I need. Weight is key to me, becuase a travel 150K miles a year. I've found that I've made few tradeoffs for this system. The screen is only 1kx700 but fine for me. There is no CD/DVD, but I don't use one when I'm traveling.
I have had one hardware problem and I was amazed by how great IBM support was. They sent a box and I had the system back in 2 days. Amazing. No hassles and no stupid scipt that someone in India who knows nothing makes you go through to prove you are worthy of help, like you find at Dell.
My gripes are all around the IBM suplied stuff for WiFi and other configuraitons. The updater for the software is in Java and really slow. The WiFi stuff doesn't always work. I have to sometimes reboot to get WiFi to work otherwise it won't acquire a DHCP address. The stuff for switching locations is the one ap that is excellent but takes a bit too long it seems to me to recognize the new location.
My biggest complaint is that it doesn't want to boot Linux from my pen drive. Same pen boots on 3 different Dells.
