"Superb tablet PC with few drawbacks" on by btownsend
Pros: Lightweight; excellent screen, easy to configure and use, exceptional battery life
Cons: No internal CD RW, some issues with fingerprint reader
Summary: I've owned my X41 for 2 months now. It is the 5th ThinkPad I've owned (600, A21, T20, T43 and X41).
Pros: exceptionally lightweight and the extended battery provides a gripping surface that makes carrying and holding easy. The battery life I'm getting on the 8 hour battery is right at 6.5 hours, so I'm fairly happy as it will at least carry me across country on an airplane. The docking station works well and I can plug 4 USB devices in when docked.
The tablet features work very well. The screen is easy to write on; character recognition works very good; and even though it is a tablet screen, it is clear and crisp enough for every day use, including limited design work.
Cons: no built in CD, although the docking station holds a CD/DVD burner or other device. I with the docking station held a 2nd device such as the floppy drive.
I've had problems with the fingerprint reader since receiving the PC and it is being shipped to IBM next week for service. It works for logon, but not for websites and other biometric enabled services. Appears to be a software related issue more than hardware.
The PC has bluetooth, but since I don't use it I would like to turn it off, but have been unalble to do so, even in MSCONFIG.
Slightly small keyboard, especially BKSP key, takes some getting used to. I also miss the little light that other ThinkPads have integrated for lighting the keyboard.
Hard drive (4,200 rpm) is a little slow and startup is about 3-4 minutes).
Overall, I am pleased with this purchase. The light weight, coupled with the accessibility of the tablet makes for a good road worthy notebook. While I do miss the larger and clearer screen of the T20, I understand there are tradeoffs when moving to the tablet and of all the tablets I investigated, the Lenovo X41 had the most features I needed. -
"The best laptop I used" on by adamsmak
Pros: Long battaey life, light weight, nice keyboard
Cons: slow hard drive, bad bluetooth software, a little noise when using earhphone,
Summary: It only can run 2.5 hour when I turn on the WiFi and bluetooth, but 5.7 hour after I turn them off!
Have problems to connect with some bluetooth devices such as bluetooth earphone, keyboard. However, I think it is software issue, then I have no way to add a dongle using bluesoleil s/w which is the best bluetooth s/w I used before.
Build-in SD card reader let me easy to get photos from DC, and save file to PDA.
Just push "Fn"+"spacebar" to switch the display resolution to 800x600 mode, then I can easy read the small fonts of some websites.
Only 33G of 40G hard drive storage can be used , because the hide partition used as recovery disk. -
"Another outstanding ThinkPad" on by Nooorm
Pros: Full size keyboard, great integrated wireless
Cons: No Optical
Summary: The X41 does eveything you'd want a Ultraportable to do. Wireless connections are simple with the Access Connections software. Plenty of power to handle any office task. Standard battery last a long time...add a few oz. and opt for the extended life battery and you'll only need to plug it in once a day.

"Good, but not great...." on by Luv2Ski217
Pros: Size, battery life
Cons: Reliability
Summary: I use this computer on a daily basis for work, and I have a T42 at home. I have been a big fan of thinkpads for a long time now.
This computer has had some issues in the past, and certain buttons haven't worked right from day one... ie) F7 not switching properly from my screen for a projecter, little things like that.
But on the other hand, it has worked well, even after I spilled a can of coke over the keys... I love that IBM drip pad... Also, the battery life on this little guy is superb.
Hope this helps! -
"Best laptop I have ever owned" on by gerbenvanduyl
Pros: Light Small Yet Powerful, lots of features
Cons: Standard battery life a bit short, replaced with bigger
Summary: I thought I was so cool with my old Vaio... Then my company made me choose a Thinkpad (for reliability reasons), I went for the X41. LOVING IT. I travel regularly and I pitty the poor souls with their full-size, heavy laptops. Mine is small, light and just as powerful. Only misses a built-in CD/DVD drive, but I bought an extenal one that is powered from the USB connection, and a bigger battery. Still lighter, smaller. This X41 just rocks. All the mod-cons just work realy well: WiFi, Skype, connectivity. Top marks, well worth the money.
