"What more could you want?" on by eggsngrits

Pros: Broadband wireless, huge screen, handle, dvd burner

    Cons: weight, a little expensive

Summary: First off, the author of this review says the CF-52 is 'not configurable' -- ??? It is more configurable than most notebooks on the market! Options for WWAN (cellular) from all three major carriers, smart card reader available, fingerprint reader available and up to 4 GB RAM!

This machine has high-end specs and it has great battery life, it does the job for me.

As a bonus, the 800-number support line is answered IN THE US. The on-hold time has never been more than one minute for me!

"Not tough at all! Bad customer service. Buyer beware!" on by zooyork916

Pros: There are no "Pros" to buying this computer.

Cons: Does not withstand the slightest shock.

Summary: Bought this computer for our son because it was supposed to be durable. In less than two months the screen broke from very mild shock. Nothing compared to the beating it takes on the TV commercials. Turns out to be false advertising! Buried in the manual for this supposed "Toughbook" it says to handle with extreme care because it can be damaged from shock and this type of damage is not covered in the warranty. When we called customer service not only were they rude but they are charging us $900 to replace the screen!!! By comparison, a similar repair from a competing brand was about $200. Do not buy this computer or any toughbook product. They do not perform as advertised, they are not backed up by a decent warranty (meaning they don't stand behind their claims of shock resistance) and the cost or repairs is more than buying a new laptop from another brand. Very, VERY disappointed.

"Excellent customer service and fast response" on by mldlalex

Pros: beautiful screen, fast processor, solid click on closing

    Cons: nothing yet

Summary: The Toughbook was provided to me by my employer. Within the first week unfortunately the screen cracked and had to be sent back. I received an email from Panasonic saying that physical damage was not covered so i was anticipating quite a charge for replacing the screen. Imagine my surprise when my Toughbook arrived back in just a little over a week's time, with no charge!!! I guess if there is anything to complain about its the lack of communication between departments in regards to what is and what is not covered under the warranty.

"Well built 21st century device for 18th century humans" on by wolear29

Pros: Like that late 1980's Sony boom box: built in Japan, designed to work as you would handle it, and cost you to a few months(either cash or through a financier). Outside conventional pricing is the Panasonic laptop line, I may think all are Toughbooks.

Cons: The CF-52 keyboard double strikes a lot, possibly due to ruggedizing improvements as my circa 2003 series fifty keyboard failed. In 2009, the laptop CF-52 was sold with CFL lighting containing mercury. Not Absolutely silent; but no fan runs at idle.

Summary: Its been dropped and kicked around like a soccer ball while hibernating and the lid closed while owners were drunk. Its been sprayed by the garden hose while watching the game outside. The keyboard has supported more weight than a single finger strike applies. Panasonic has improved the model CF50 addressing every concern I had with it. Great Job, Panasonic!

    "Da Toughbook" on by BigTimeJEff

    Pros: Lighting Fast
    Durable Semi Rugged
    Kick Ass Red Light

    Cons: Expensive
    Bulky

Summary: My friend just got a cf52 with a "toughscreen." he spent like 3000 dollars on it so it was really expensive, but, BUT, it is awesome. we were playing world of warcraft on it and using the touchscreen to navigate. too bad he didnt get a fully rugged model. he plans on mounting the 52 in his car and using it with the docking station. all in all its a pretty cool laptop that is built to take some minor bumps and bruises. he got me all interested in these toughbooks so i started searching and i found the coolest stories at www.toughbookuniverse.com. this one soldier in iraq was saved by his bullet proof laptop! anyway panasonic tests the hell out of these toughbooks and it's my dream to one day own one. highly reccomended if you guys have the $$$$.
