"Efficiency and cleanliness in a tight package."5.0 starson by Dell2350
Pros: First off is the looks; nice, clean cut finish. Sleek yet sturdy.
Secondly, the speed is lovely, (after removing the bloatware) boot-up and execution is phenomenal.
Lastly, the beef, process power, hard-drive, battery and ram are fierce, for the $
Cons: First, the adapter jack is flimsy and looks delicate. I think it can be broken easily if careless.
Second, the touch pad requires a gentle touch and can be weird at times.
Lastly, the screen flicker, it is there, but it isn't consistent.
Summary: The bottom-line is that this laptop is performance in a pretty package.
In fact, it has replaced my desktop because there is very little it can't do. Furthermore everything that i disliked about it, i fixed.
For example, i didn't like that touch pad, it's not for me. So i started to use my wireless mouse, which utilizes a Bluetooth adapter which allowed other bluetooth devices to connect to my laptop, essentially killing two birds with one stone.
Also, the bloatware and recovery partition are troublesome-if left alone. However, i installed a clean copy of windows 7, loaded all of the programs i wanted and overwrote the recovery, which is where all the bloatware lives. By the way the Samsung recovery tool made it easy, much easier than it usually is. And removing all that bloat makes the computer fast! Boot time is under 10 seconds for me.
As for the screen flicker, or more specifically the interface flickering in and out when in fullscreen seems to be sporadic. It only happens on certain websites, but still, that is a considerable flaw in that it's so widespread in a finished product.
The ac adapter plug doesn't fit snugly into the jack. It's loose and discomforting making me mindful of it at times. It feels like one wrong move and it will break. That sucks because that laptop is sturdy yet light, making it very portable. So if you're going to move around a lot with it plugged be mindful of the plug.
However, the battery life is pretty long depending on what you're doing. So you may not need to plug it in. For, example gaming will eat battery life, which leads me to my next topic.
It has the ability to play most games but the later the game the lower the settings. That's obvious but, still. For example you could run fallout 3 on Ultra, and CodMW1 and 2 on low to medium, high is not really playable and Battlefield BC2on medium.
All-in-all, this laptop gave me a lot for the money and then some. in terms of productivity-it can't be beat. In terms of entertainment it suffices. It has become my workhorse and my playstation. For a student on the go, it is complete.
