"Excellent, not outstanding laptop"4.0 starson by GarrickR
Pros: Great feature set, lots of outputs well placed, great screen, Bluetooth, very little bloatware looks great, solidly built; light, according to specs.. A longer lasting 5200Ma batt is available as an option from Samsung.
Cons: Speakers leave something to be desired, and the sound codec is Realtek, notorious for bad sound, but who buys a laptop for sound? No lightscribe.
Summary: I bought this laptop because I wanted one with a 16 inch screen and a full keyboard. The processor is decent and it has Centrino technology. the R610 laptop has ample memory and the hard drive is spacious. Bluetooth is a great feature for me because I will be at a desk using a mouse most of the time. The keyboard is pretty good and the touch pad is very nice. I've never used vista before and I like it pretty well, but it demands everything this computer has to run it. My base vista score was 3.7, which, from what I hear, isn't bad. I was surprised to find 32 vista updates waiting for me when I started my computer, and I had sp1. The speakers and sound codec turned out to be the real disappointment for me, but I didn't buy it for sound anyway, so no great loss there. I do wish that Samsung was bold enough to include a premium battery with this laptop, but they didn't. What they did do was provide premium build quality and a solid laptop that weighs under 7lbs. There were no dead pixels, and the screen is very bright. The screen is nearly flush with the frame, making this a one of the thinner 16 inch notebooks. It closes solidly, even though there is no latch. The hinge appears to be sturdy and tight. The outputs are well placed and one of them is HDMI, so that I can hook it up to my TV. This is a well built computer with a quality feature set. The screen is outstanding, and I am very happy with my purchase.
