"Excellent all round notebook!"
4.5 starson by jaffreywaliPros: - 1080p screen (I got the upgraded screen)
- Windows 7 Media Center (Sony includes a Blu Ray plug in, which along with Netflix and Live TV make this a fantastic media center laptop)
- Zippy graphics
-Superb build qualityCons: - battery life is mediocre. Not helped by Sony's default setting that charges only till 80% (to prolong battery life). I disabled the battery protection feature and now get around 2.5 hours of media play back on full bright screen.
Summary: I use mine for work and home. I considered a Macpro 17 inch before settling on the Vaio FW. Windows 7 plus a superbly built hardware means this is the best value of it's class. I've owned Dell and HP notebooks for over 12 years now, with new upgrades almost every year. One huge difference between a Vaio and Dell or HPs I have owned is the build quality. From the key board to the rigidity of the plastic to the screen, the Sony is so much nicer to use.
Older Vaios used to run hotter and the fans were always in the wrong place, but the newer Vaios are very well designed. I would highly recommend this to ANYONE who is considering either a 17 inch Mac Pro or any entertainment notebook from Dell or HP. Just compare these side by side and I bet you'll walk away with the Vaio!
