"Overall good computer, a few quirks"
Pros: Easy to use keyboard, body has nice texture and finish (silver)
Cons: Touchpad and buttons become dirty fast, cheap-feeling plastic body, no volume controls on computer
Summary: I purchased the NS140D. The first thing I noticed is that I could not connect to wifi internet... Other Vista users have similar problems, but this computer seems to make it worse. If you use an extremely secure connection, good luck. The second thing I noticed is that when this computer is on the edge of a table and I press on the corner (specifically, the bottom left), the body bends a LOT. This is a real design flaw, if something heavy were to drop on the corner, it could cause some serious damage. My previous, cheap feeling computer was very sturdy at the edges. Thirdly, and possibly what angers me the most, is that there are no volume controls on the body. There is a mute button which half the time does not respond (there is a volume control, however, on the keyboard; function+F3 and F4). The AV mode button takes a while to kick in and I don't even find it useful. Lastly, the touchpad is quite irresponsive. I don't like to click with the buttons (I worry they will break), so I use the touchpad to do all my selecting, draging, etc., but I find that sometimes I have to tap a couple times for it to respond. I'm not a gamer at all, but sometimes I'll play casual games and I noticed that with a game like Zuma, for example, which requires quite quick reflexes, the touchpad is very very slow (even with the proper settings). If you just want a computer for word processing, watching movies (it's GREAT for that!), internet, school... I think this is an excellent choice for your money. I did a lot of research and I am glad I picked this up, because I couldn't imagine spending any less for a computer... and every other computer I saw cost more but had far less features (the others didn't even have Intel Core 2 Duo). Overall though, even with its quirks, I really like this computer. I payed $850 CAD total (last one in Montreal!) and I'm happy with my purchase, PC-wise. However, I think with all the Vista troubles, I'll opt for a Mac next time. I can see this lasting for the next 5+ years.
