"Amazing device for business and I.T." on by geekfixme

Pros: Thin, light weight, well build and feel solid. Battery life is amazing. Variety of ports and options. GPS, bluetooth and Verizon build in.

Cons: Only wireless N based on G connectivy and not A up to 150mbps, SSD drive a little slower than some of the newer ones on the market. No back lit keyboard found in similar expensive devices.

Summary: If you are a business executive or an I.T. pro on the go this device is for you. I have used it for 3 weeks and it has performed very well with Windows 7 Ultimate. The unit is well build, stylish and light weight. The Sony X series is great for web surfing, email, working on document. This is not a power house, bur rather a great device for mobile users.

"Style, Substance, Elegance & Portability!" on by jaffreywali

Pros: - 14 hour bettery life! (comes with standard + extended battery)
    - Amazing slim carbon + aluminum case
    - 1.6 lb!
-Comes with windows 7 Home Premium
    -SSD Hard drive

Cons: - Screen resolution isn't as high as the P-Series
-128GB SSD hard drive is a little small
-Verizon 3G service is expensive for unlimited data access

Summary: This is the best Windows based ultra portable notebook in the market today. If you care about build quality and not mind paying a premium then this is the no compromize product. Everything else simply looks chunky and plain compared to the X-Series from Vaio.

You have to hold one in your hands to know how well built and beautiful this product is. In my life only 2 other products have evoked such an emotional response - the first ipod Nano and then the itouch. Sony has done a great job here and it is totally worth it (if you are willing to pay the price). Personally, after 12 years I am sick and tired or sub standard plasticky Dell and HP notebooks. I really like the new Vaios!

The notebook has fast wi-fi and web browing and general office productivity software run very well. I also have a Vaio FW series notebook and the X series isn't as fast nor as powerful, but they server different purposes.

"Great for Students" on by days12365

Pros: Fast start-up and shut down and light, light, light

    Cons: No CD Drive

Summary: I was a graduate student until very recently, and I used a Sony laptop (SZ series) for the first year and a half. The second year and a half of my studies was much more pleasant. While my laptop was light (5 lbs or less), the X Series was so much better!! My back was so much happier carrying this one around. The computer worked better than my needs demanded. I have to admit that I spent a lot of time on the internet while in class, so I needed a computer that could switch from wordprocessing (WordPerfect) to the internet and back again and not miss a word because professors talk fast. This computer did that no problem. I had NO crashing issues, which was a lifesaver. There is nothing worse than having to reboot your computer in the middle of class while scrambling for a pen and paper (because students these days are lucky if they even have those supplies with them let alone handy).

The biggest con that I have for this machine is that, like any netbook, there is no CD drive. For the most part, this wasn't a problem, but I run Office 2003 (I know, what kind of techie am I?), and it REFUSED to install without the disk because of the authentication issues. I ended up spending another $20 to get an external CD drive to get that program running because it was pretty critical for my school papers and such.

I feel that I really put my computers through the wringer (probably not more than the IT guys, but pretty close), and this one has risen to every challenge I've handed it.

I just love this little guy and really highly recommend it.

"Bring something different to the table? Definitely." on by sarschan

Pros: made of quality material, no cheap plastic there! battery life is superb, screen is very good. You pay for quality and craftsmanship, and that's what you get.

Cons: the VAIO logo scratches easily, videos always come out choppy, although streaming is ok. the carbon fiber screen guarantees toughness, but i noticed that after opening the laptop wiith one hand, it has started to curve

Summary: the vaio x does not promise to be the best laptop out there, and it really isn't. What it does offer is its superb engineering: being unbelievably thin and light are really it's main selling point. but don't be fooled. Even being thinner and lighter than a netbook, it still performs better. Being able to expand memory with SD and pro duo card slots, not to mention two usb slots and an ethernet port are proof to take this lightweight seriously. The fact that it's also eyecandy is just icing on the cake. Compared to other laptops and netbooks, it may be more expensive, but when you hold it in your hands you know that it's definitely worth it.

"Keyboard too small, price for performance" on by statusk

Pros: with smaller battery, impressive size, weight, screen resolution good.
Great battery life with extended battery. Easy access to USB, VGA.

Cons: Hard to type, even surfing web is slow with atom processor, poor skype quality for the price.

Summary: Cannot type quickly, while battery life is great, I returned and got macbook air with less battery life (5-6 hrs) but faster processor, better audio/video (albeit, both are expensive). If sony were 500.00 less (US) would have kept, not worth price premium over other netbooks unless performance gets better. Still, an impressive piece of engineering!
