"Ordering tomorrow" on by Composer_1777
Pros: Sony, lasts forever, casing, build quality, the most advanced intel chips, highest quality laptop display on the market.
Cons: none except that i prefer my laptops to be super portable and l wish the FW were a little lighter but its a media laptop not ultra portable. I already got one of those just need this baby for my 42 inch sony hd
Summary: I'm cusotm building mine and ordering it tomorrow. I got 2 sony laptops at the moment, an old FS and a newer SZ , both run beautifully. My SZ runs vista like nothing and its already a year old. The 3 year old FS runs perfectly; it is still very functional as well. These bad reviews don;t even belong on this product and should be deleted.

"Fast, Beautiful Simplistic Layout; All Around Great" on by AppGrad
Pros: The screen on this is amazing. The 16:9 format takes a little getting used to, but provides great extra work space. Keyboard is great, and built in webcam is very smooth. Very quick, have not experienced any lag running applications or gaming.
Cons: Speakers could be louder, but are more than enough for anything other than watching a movie 15 feet away.
Summary: This computer was an excellent investment. After researching for months with a budget that allowed almost every laptop, I found this one to be the best value. It is very quick, the display is gorgeous (if you opt for Hi-Color as I did), and is beautiful. Originally I was worried about portability, but it is very light especially considering the screen size that you get. It even fits into my top-loading laptop book bag that specifically says 15.4 inch is the maximum no problem. Very happy with the choice I made!

"Great Laptop for Multimedia" on by StarionX
Pros: Clear screen visibility, very fast loading (when plugged), spacing of the keys, HDMI output, tons of built-in features, price.
Cons: Battery life not what was expected, some movies flicker (with basic entry level graphics), still pretty heavy, usual bloatware VAIOs come with.
Summary: I was looking for a basic laptop, with the latest possible goodies, so I can do some internet work and minor gaming on the go. This is a pretty good choice for the price, especially with the Sony name on it. Also, with the new Centrino 2 technology, and a faster ram than the usual models, this was definately a great choice so I could get faster load times.
I love the clarity of the screen so I can watch movies with great detail, the programs that come with it to watch movies on are very user friendly, despite all the bloatware surrounding it. I also have found on occaision, while watching a movie, my screen flickers a bit. Not too much a big deal, I hardly notice it.
The notebook itself is very comfortable to hold and with the spacing of the keys, it makes it easier to type. It's still a bit heavy so carrying it for long periods of time could put a strain on you (I carry mine using a backpack).
One other great positive is that since Centrino 2 runs with less power needed, it runs cooler than most laptops of this class. one complaint I hear about notebooks is that they tend to overheat.
The only major negative I had was that the battery life was a lot less than everyone said it was. It was supposed to be rated to go about5.5 hours without recharge. Mine only goes 2.5 at most. I'm hoping it's just a faulty battery I have, but I can't afford another one to test that theory out. One other negitive is the sound quality of the speakers. It's no big deal to me. I use headphones anyway and that sounds MUCH better on this laptop.
Overall, I think this is a great computer for those who would like something to last you a good couple of years longer than the average lifespan on a computer/notebook, and not have to spend an arm and a leg to get the best. This is also good for those who don't need to buy a new computer/notebook every other year. The sleek design will also help you get noticed. My friends at first thought the 16:9 ratio was wierd, but loved how unique it is. This is not a gaming computer at all (I actually have the same model/specs that was tested here). If you want something more, but enjoy the new technology, have yours custom built from Sony. I think this is a pretty good choice for the average movie watcher and internet enthusiast. I say give this one a shot. -
"Excellent Laptop for an Amazing Price" on by PLmike
Pros: High Resolution Screen, Clean Design, Nice Button and Keyboard Layout, Everything runs extremely well
Cons: The only thing I would classify as a con would be the CD/DVD drive, its louder than most CD/DVD's drives.
Summary: I payed $999.99 for this laptop...and I think I have gotten more than I've payed for. The screen size is just perfect, and the laptop is at a nice weight. It seems thin for its size as well. The FW140 also runs a variety of applications with ease, I was able to run Gears of War on a lower resolution. It's processor is also able to handle a huge amount of applications at once. I haven't found much negative to say about this laptop and I really enjoy using it. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a nice media laptop for a great price.

"Highly Unstable Vista/Sony combination" on by twistedtory
Pros: Design, screen
Cons: Constant crashes, instability, inability to resolve conflicts between Vista and VAOI OS
Summary: Sony doesn't offer this product with Windows XP, however, it's not clear to me or the tech pros who have tried to fix this thing that Vista is the sole issue. Until Sony and Vista are compatible, Sony should not sell products loaded with Vista. As a non-tech layperson, I need my technology to be solid, stable and reliable. Thanks to this Sony, I'm looking at MACs!
