Great PC Until the Video Card Started to Go =(
Pros: All the pros are listed in other reviews
Cons: The video card started to die in a little less than three years. The 13 vertical lines (and counting) kind of defeat the purpose of the nice large screen. I did a little web research and it looks like you have to replace the motherboard to fix it.

Big, Bulky, but very powerful
Pros: nice, big display; shiney
Cons: heavy, bulky, most computer bags don't fit it, volume control is extremely touchy, gets dirty quickly
One of my only complaints is how heavy and bulky it is. It makes it a pain when you're actually carrying the thing around. It is not a good notebook for portability for this reason. However, it's an extremely powerful machine that can do virtually anything a normal computer does.
I love the DVD burner and easy keys (play, skip, stop, etc).
The touch pad is touchy, like the volume control, but what notebook's isn't? It is unfortunate that it doesn't have an easy on/off switch but I found FN F9 works just as good as a single button.
The shiney black plastic gets dirty easily, however, the computer comes with a polishing cloth that takes the dirt right off (just make sure to turn the computer off when doing it as the easy keys can start up Media Control Center).

Toshiba forever!!!
Pros: Great sound and great display plus all around good performance
Cons: Heavy, pricey and not seriously meant to be run on its battery. Customer service sucks.
Its good looks quickly faded with travel and use. The next and worst bad point was that it ran awfully hot. It was later expalined to me that Toshiba had used a processor intended for a desktop computer to run it. Then came the day my motherboard fried and though I had it repaired, I decided on a new one.
During my shopping around and, I'll be darned, I discovered that somebody at Toshiba had finally got around to some real thinking and came up with the Qosmio. The purchase was an expensive one but I've never been happier. I loaded mine with the full 2GB of RAM and it works like a dream and does not become excessively warm during its almost 24/7 run time. It performs capably for all the ordinary every-day-business stuff and does great with DVDs and other media presentation. And -- despite the weight mine travels with me everyday. This is the first laptop I've had that proves itself as durable. It still looks nearly as good as it did the day I first took it out of the box.
Since I've had and used this one a good while, I am of course interested in moving up to the AV600 or AV660 due to improved features. When I do, the purchase will be made with no hesitation.
Note: My only serious problem with Toshiba has nothing to do with product but that the larger part of its customer service frontline is outsourced and not very capable. This most often leads what should be fast, simple problem solving to becoming nothing more than long, tedious and fruitless time on the phone. On the up side, Toshiba does not seem to have this problem with inept staffing when you dial its sales line. Wonder why?

Computer's good, but the customer care department is non-existent
Pros: "Good" computer so long as it works perfectly and NEVER needs service.
Cons: "Customer Care" department is imaginary. You will NEVER get through to them.
I was told that I would be sent a replacement 2 weeks after they received it. Now, it's been 3 weeks and NOTHING. Contacting customer care (the people in charge of replacing the system) is IMPOSSIBLE.
I have left messages for them over 10 times with customer service and they haven't called me back at all. They are allowed 5-business days to call me back and it's been over 2 weeks.
I had to call their corporate offices, but of course, I am only able to leave a message for them to call me back and they STILL haven't called me back. And that was a week ago.
Now I have to get a certified letter and send in legal documents for something that was SUPPOSED to be a safeguard for my computer.
So, my advice to you, DO NOT GET SYSTEMGUARD. Save your money. If you do get it, it's an utter waste of time and who knows when, or if, you'll ever get your computer back. And the service express is as much as a joke.
Also, if you like speaking to Manila and Singapore, then Toshiba is for you as their customer service is from there and they are so disconnected with the entire process is ridiculous. They're certainly saving money by putting a call center there but because there is ZERO accountability, nothing will get done except the runaround.
I don't know what happened to the exceptional service I heard about but it's obviously gone!

Pros: amazing picture and sound, good performance
Cons: bulky, weight and battery life
Examples of what it can do. I've taken it on holidays with me: we didn't even watch tV in the room, the qosmio was better than the hotel tv; watched DVDs on bed; it was our hifi system; we played some nice games; we both surfed, skiped, etc.
However, the battery life is not enough for a full movie and a pain in the ass to carry around... If you think of buying it, join a gym in advance and do some weight lifting to be ready

Freezes up
Pros: Lots of features
Cons: Freezes and short battery life
I was a couple of days too hasty in writing my opinion and giving my rating. I had fought the freeze ups ever since I got the notebook and was on the verge of sending it back when I remembered the school had bought and installed a 2 GB memory upgrade. I found the original memory and have not had any further problems with freezing. I am currently editing a 3 hour movie we produced with no problems. If the DVD burner burns the final product without any problems I would like to change my rating to a 10 if it is allowed. I had some problems when trying to burn a DVD earlier but do not know if that was related to the memory problem. I am currently sending back the Edge memory upgrade to the vendor it was bought from and preparing to purchase the Toshiba memory upgrade.

Everything I expected and more
Pros: See the glowing CNET review....its all TRUE
Cons: Weighs a ton ..battery life is rather dismal
As reported in the extensive review offered, this machine is perhaps the first computer I've ever purchased that really made me sit back and say 'wow'.
Its not so much any particular aspect of the machine that makes it stand out but perhaps the combination of all it's quality amentities and solid performance that makes this machine a dream come true.
Perhaps the only draw back is the immense weight and low battery life, making it virtually an impossible choice for anyone wanting true ease of mobility and long ac-less operation.
I've completely scrapped use of my desktop machines and am even thinking of getting rid of my TV, CD and DVD players...their services are no longer required ! ;>
Kudos to Toshiba for a true show stopper...now if I could just stop polishing the mirror finish every time a palm print appears, I'll really be effecive !

One Powerful Baby!
Pros: Bright display, awesome speakers, fast, surprisingly quiet, and so pretty!
Cons: Touch pad has no on/ off option and weight
This machine is awesome! The screen size and bright display with the speakers is incredible. It performs beyond what I expected. I have a desktop custom built by Dell with the processor 3.8 and all the latest hardware. I didn?t think the Toshiba would compare, but it did. It?s fast, quiet and really cool looking. The glossy black design does create fingerprint smudges, but no big deal compared to what you get.
I do have to mention my biggest complaint. You can?t turn off the mouse pad. I have to type really careful so I don?t touch the pad so the cursor won?t go off my mark. It gets really irritating. I initially thought the low battery life would be an issue for me, but I keep it plugged in wall most of time.
With the cost of this computer, it took me a long time and a hard decision, but I don?t regret it one bit. I would do it again.

Top Laptop with RAID options
Pros: RAID ability. Ultra bright/Clear display. Easy volume control. Great Sound. Stand Alone LCD TV and DVD/CD player.
Cons: To many procesess running. Only 120Gs worth of HDDs.
One of the downsides I am working on is there is some preinstalled program that is running in the back ground that keeps tasking the computer when running a Benchmark. The FPS ( Frames Per Second will run over 100 then jump down to around 20 and back up to over 100. And its at diffrent times in the Benchmark so it isn't the Benchmark doing it. I am killing pre loading programs one at a time till I figure it out.
Another downside is the polised top. Scratches and finger prints and palm prints are imposiable to avoid with this laptop. The touche pad is a little small but this is a desktop replacement so the touche pad I don't really think is ment to be used as the primary mouse here.
I'm not really crazy about front loading DVD/CD drives on laptops as the are anoying when acctually usinig in on you lap. And sometime you hit the eject by mistake and can run the risk of breaking the Disk tray. This has not tray on it to break. Down side to this no having a Disk tray is you can not use disks smaller than 12 cm.
All in all I am buying this Laptop soon. Geek Squad is not my primary job. I am a Telecommunications Systems Eng. I travel alot so I like to have laptops. LOL. I have a really small Sony VGN-S460P that I love but really want a Gameing laptop to take on the road with me. This I beleive is it. It come with a VGA input cable and also Componet cables. Perfect for pluging in my Xbox 360 and using as a PC Gaming machine and Console Gaming LCD... End of story.

Toshiba Screws over End Users with faulty gear.
Pros: Fast processor Great Graphics
Cons: If it breaks you will feel the real pain.
I have long been a Supporter of Toshiba Laptops and have owned several myself. I would have continued to by and recommend there systems until I bought the A75-S229 for work and College. I got the System and at this time in November the system is on its third trip to a Service center for hardware failures. I had intended to purchase two addition systems in the short term for my Children but After dealing with the Customer service and customer relations at Toshiba I can promise that that will not happen. Further the attitude that the gave me will color my judgment for sometime to come. You see I recommend Systems to the US army in my job as an Information Technology specialist. Rest assured I will not recommend a company that does not care how a product they sold you fails time and time again and they just keep making it your problem. If there systems keeps failing they should give you a different one. I take very good care of my gear and depend on it to work. Unfortunately dependability is not in Toshibas lexicon.

Great features
Pros: Fairly well balanced for most any use.
Cons: The features are great but something is missing.
(As long as the higher end graphic wont create too much heat). Now a higher end graphics solution would be nice but it is not the real feature that is missing from this unit I am pretty satisfied with it as it is, the real feature this unit is lacking (as most laptops are lacking) is tablet functionality, this unit needs to be convertible! and then it would be perfect. I don?t understand why convertible PC?s or tablets have to be small (who says that tablet functions should only be for those who want to write while they walk?). Wouldn?t it be nice to fold it down and place it in your lap to serf the net or take notes using the stylus and not have a cumbersome keyboard in your lap as well? Imagine sitting on your living room sofa watching TV on your big screen while surfing the net with your PC folded flat down on your lap and that?s it (no cumbersome keyboard to deal with if you don?t want to use it) that would be a true laptop, would it not? I think all laptops should be convertible and I hope the manufacturers are listening

FULL FEATURED LAPTOP A MUST HAVE FOR THE TECH IN ALL OF US!!!
Pros: Everything, this laptop does everything that no other laptop does on the market.
Cons: Short Battery life, and cant get a bigger battery.
The reason I gave this one a 10 is because I am just so happy with it. I buy laptops just about every 6 months or so. So I know what is good and what is bad. However, I only buy Toshiba, and Sony Laptops because frankly the rest (exccept Dell) put too much crap on their machines, and they are just not reliable.
I saw a review that said the screen is to bright, I believe the screen is PERFECT I would not want it any dimmer, that was actually one of my drawbacks with other models of laptops. This one is bright and it can be turned down, and down very low. Another good thing is when the sun is shining bright you can still see the screen PERFECTLY (Well better than any other one I have used LOL). This is the first Laptop that does everything. What more could you want in a Laptop except maybe bigger hard drives or an even better video card for games LOL! I actually wish they had one like this that used the normal Pentium 3.4 GHZ CPU (like Toshiba usually does), But intel controls the market and they want the Centrino out there so what is a customer to do. I have also tried every game out that is graphics intensive and this laptop while you cant have everything Extremely high, you can have most of the graphics turned up pretty good with out any performance hangs. Nice machine in my opinion. The blue lights are to bright LOL, but who cares in the grand scheme of thigns. I am a little upset though that the battery cannot have a larger one installed, so that is a bit of a gripe. All in all I am very very happy I bought this Laptop. Its a bit pricy but well worth the spending.

the best laptop out there to have it is to love it
Pros: power looks speed sound has it all
Cons: finger prints on the black part of the laptop
I love this laptop but recentely, the DVD drive stop working on me. It is still under waranty. It is taking Toshiba 2 months just to get the parts in. In my opinion, this is ridicolous. If it takes Toshiba that long to get one part, then you must agree that their customer services sucks.
I have owned this laptop since October 2005. In December a DVD got stuck in the DVD drive. I called Toshiba and talked to their customer support. They said that they will replace the DVD drive as soon as they get the part in. It is now the end of May, and the laptop is still not fixed because they can get the part from China. I am now taking Toshiba to court to try and get my money back. This whole thing has been a nightmare. Toshiba has never called me once to tell me anything about when the DVD drive will come in. I have had to call them almost every day. I could go on with this story about how many Toshiba representatives that I have to talk to. This was Toshiba top-of-the-line laptop and it doesn't do anyone any good to spend that much money or any money on a laptop with poor customer support. To have to take a company to Court, just let you know how good they are..!

Real Review From A Real User.... I actually own A Qosmio G25 Unit. I've had it for 4 months
Pros: Excellent unit for stand alone TV or DVD playback. Uses less battery time, especially since you don't get much from normal play. No docking bay needed for watching TV. Very loud quality sound.
Cons: Battery life sucks. Did I say battery life sucks? Oh yeah batter life sucks. 5400 Rpms Hard Drive reduces game play. For such a heavy system should be at least 7200 Rpms. Touch Pad is way too small.
Tech Support sucks. If I knew that Tech support was so lousy, I would have purchase from another company. MY Battery was D.O.A, and I've been trying to get it replace ever since. After four months they finally replaced it. I've also been trying to upgrade to a stronger battery life and a faster hard drive. It's a nightmare.

You won't find better.
Pros: Can't list them all; I've got work in the morning.
Cons: 1. Battery life is short (1hr to 1hr1/2) 2. A little big and heavy (but its a desktop replacement, not an 'ultraportable') 3. Makes me stay up too late.
Some of the reviewers have criticized this computer for being too pricey when there are other comparable models out there. Do the research and judge for yourself. It depends on what you're going to use it for and what you want. I do a lot of graphic art; use a lot of office applications; and as a musician, use the Qosmio as a home studio (using Sonar, Cubase, Fruity Loops, etc, etc). This computer not only multitasks awesome with all of my schoolwork and research, but handles mega resource hogs like Sonar Producer edition with ease. I don't watch a lot of TV, but as a general all-around media center, the Qosmio rocks the house.
It may be expensive, but you get what you pay for, and with the G25 you get A LOT. And aside from what's under the hood (which stacks up to pretty much any computer you put it up against), this thing is just about as gorgeous a piece of machinery as I've ever seen. The pics and videos and whatnot just don't do it justice.
The bottom line is that this is a great computer. There are others in the same league that are cheaper, but I would advise anyone doing comparison shopping to look closely at all the figures and stats, and seeing the G25 and it's competitors side by side is a must. The G25's screen is more impressive than most I saw that had even higher resolutions; it is a more functional and versitile computer; and it has so many connections that you can hook everything up to it but a chainsaw.
I just sold thousands of dollars worth of home studio recording equipment, gave away a huge pioneer stereo system (that rocked), and threw my DVD player out the window- the Qosmio is pretty much all I need, and I'm what you might call a 'media junkie.'

Disappointment
Pros: Nice screen, looks cool
Cons: To much garbage loaded on it.
I bought Battlefield 2 and loaded it. It took me over a day to load the Software since the DVD drive would not read install disk 2. I figured out the image of disk 1, was still somehow stuck in memory so I had to reset the drive by putting in a music disk, then reloading disk 2.
Finally got the game installed and very choppy, sticky play.
I expected much more from a 3000+ dollar laptop.
I haven't tried the tuner yet. I was on a flight and got through an entire movie on the battery with 3 minutes to spare. (It last about 1hour and 40min.)
Went to Toshiba support sight and it is not very helpful.
If I were to make the purchase again I would buy the dell.
Qosmio came out with an updated driver, as well as did the game I had problems with. It is working flawlessly. I think it is fare to Toshiba, to point out that this is the best computer I have ever owned or had contact with; and I have had contact with plenty working as a network card and software installer.
I was a little tough originally, due to the money I forked out. I would now rank this computer a perfect 10. It is doing everything I could have possibly hoped for and more.
I have been doing a lot of video editing with this computer the past two months. The memory stick reader, editing capabilities, sound system, and screen are awesome.
If I could change the 6 to a 10 I would.

Does not Wow
Pros: Good screen, speakers, etc., etc.
Cons: Many missed opportunities and annoyances
The LED indicator lights are too bright. I had to tape them over (can still clearly see them) since it was hard watching video with bright lights at the bottom of the screen. The screen is very bright, usually a good thing, but it might be too bright. Regardless, it cannot be dimmed very much so if you use your notebook in a situation where you need a dim screen, this machine is not for you. The touch sensitive buttons above the keyboard are often triggered inadvertently such as when I?m using the F keys causing a painful pause while the TV starts up.
I had been eyeing a wireless mouse so with this computer I also bought a bluetooth mouse so no adaptor would be required. I did get it to work BUT after every boot, restart, wake-up, 20 minutes, or just randomly I have to use the touchpad to make three separate selections, press a TINY recessed button on the bottom of the mouse and then make another mouse selection. It is such a bother I?m eyeing a wired mouse now. Speaking of adaptors, TV use requires one but to my surprise it is not an industry standard one. Good luck finding a replacement if it gets lost or when it wears out (no replacement listing on the Toshiba web site).
Toshiba really dropped the ball on this?while the computer has an IR port and the TV remote is IR (should have been bluetooth), you must plug in a separate USB IR receiver box to use the remote. So while unlike competing computers a separate tuner box is not required, doesn?t having a separate IR receiver box turn out to be the same annoyance?
On to Windows Media Center 2005. They say 2005 is a great improvement over 2003. In this case 2003 must have been a real pile of crap since WMC2005 is no prize. Just as MS Works is a watered down MS Word and Celeron is a watered down Pentium, WMC is a poor watered down version of TIVO marketed by Microsoft to people who don?t know any better. In typical MS fashion, the commercial skip feature seems to have been purposely made to make it hard to skip commercials. Select fast forward and the video speeds to maybe 3X, so six minutes of ads takes two minutes to skip through. Select fast forward again and its more like 40X, so in twelve seconds you?ve skipped the ads AND two minutes of show. Not having an overshoot backup feature like TIVO is inexcusable. The TV guide only displays seven stations by 1 and ½ hours using something like a 36 point font?why can?t I make the font 12 points and glance at 21 stations by 5 hours. Even the cheapest free five-year-old web browser lets me change the font size. And use of the very-space-inefficient DVR-MS video storage format (10X MPEG-4) seems just a way to get you to buy conversion software and most storage hardware. Given that it runs on a general-purpose computer, WMC should have a number of user configurable settings and an API as well.
Oh, I forgot to mention that rather than a door flipper, the PCMCIA slot uses an annoying plastic filler piece. Certainly a disappointment on a high end $$$ machine. Also, there is some other slot above it so I have to fiddle with the ejection buttons to get to the PCMCIA one. Practice with the PCMCIA slot in the store and you will see what I mean.
On to other's comments. First, I did not see anything much factually wrong with any of them, just differences of opinion. This is the point, if you read my info and say, for example "so you think Media Center sucks, why should I care since I am not going to use it" that is fine. I just wanted to give a heads-up to those who, like me, would choose this model for that feature.
Screen too bright--yes, you can dim it but not very much compared to any other notebook I've used. If you, for example, were planning on watching movies on a night flight, be advised it will still be quite bright (or take notes in a dark lecture hall or ...). If this does not apply to you then of course ignore this info.
LEDs too bright--I doubt you would notice this in the store. However, when viewing the screen at a distance such as to watch video the 3 LEDs at the front of the unit appear at the bottom of the screen and their great brightness do distract greatly from viewing videos. I did put a piece of white cloth medical tape over them and this fixed the problem quite nicely as they can still be clearly seen but are no longer distractingly bright. Same with the volume light but I'm living with the power switch and TV+DVD lights as these are bright but in less prominent positions.
Separate remote control box--I bought this specific model because I wanted a unit that was complete and self-contained even if that meant a large heavy unit. I wanted a change from my prior system where I could set it up and move it around without all the recabling and separate loose pieces to keep track of. I wanted just the power cord if I could find such a machine. I specifically searched for such a unit so a separate plug in box and cable is annoying to me in general but in this context it is curseable. I still say the remote should have been Bluetooth away.
Bluetooth--I have gotten the mouse to work a little less bothersomely so it is not as bad. Still, in fact just today, Bluetooth turned itself off internally on its own and good luck figuring out and correcting the problem. I am now also using Bluetooth stereo headphones (the Toshiba ones which are cool) but these are too a bother. For example, mute the TV viewer and in short order they disconnect and I have to go through the gyrations I used to have to do with the mouse to get them running again. Unfortunately, the fixes I did with the mouse will not work with the headphones.
Touch keys--sure they are cool but do this in the store--hold your right hand out and place the pointer finger over F1. Look at your middle finger and see that it is over the TV button. Pointer finger on F2 and middle over the DVD button. Trouble is, these buttons activate without being pressed down, only touched, and their activation locks up the computer for at least 10 seconds. Note that only the LAST five buttons, not the first six can be reprogrammed/turned off.
Window MCE--stills sucks but the more I have used it the more work arounds I have found to make it better while finding more things that suck. For example, the TV guide displays a TIP rather than the program so I have to move to another program to get rid of the tip and then back to the first program to see what it is--what a pain and it cannot be turned off. Also, leave it in the background for a while and 2/3 the listings go blank so I have to exit and restart (don't you love troubleshooting Bill's sucky software for the world's richest man). I discovered on the remote only, there is a 30sec. skip which was my salvation given how truely sucky the fast forward does not work. So how come I can't have a 30/60/120/240 selection (with 240 being the most needed)? Oh well, TV sucks and I imagine as with TIVO as well, the new TV season brought with it several anti-TIVO/MCE schemes so enjoy TIVO/MCE while you can. For example, more and more programs that used to give episode info no longer do so duplicate show recording prevention cannot work. Also, some change lineups the day before so the guides are off and record the show you don't want but they tricked you into recording.
After five more months of use I have warmed up to the machine--a little. Compared to one other computer I used, the WiFi seemed to have better range, FWIW, though of course I wish it were more. At 2Ghz it does not seem that fast, more like 2X my old system than 5X but this has not been a big deal for me. I have been using the bundled SW to convert saved TV shows into MPEG2 (and then on to 1/10 sized MPEG4) but get this--it ties up the entire screen and if you don't let this happen it looks like it is still working but when it is done hours latter you find out it stopped converting. So I run one conversion at a time overnight. A big pain but it does work.

still very happy with my buy of the Qosmio.runs fast/cool/closes sales....customer,s love the look/gaming/screen perfection/sound is crisp/nvidia 6600 graphics card pefect.all in all i got what i paid for.thats hard to make happen when buying a notebook but at last i pulled it off.the stock 1g was perfect out of the box but i decided to add another 1g and now running 2 g.the proformanec has been outstanding to say the least.only issue i have had with this notebook is the finger print action.lets put it this way..my notebook is clean all the time.
i think toshiba made it so shinny so you would take care of it by keeping it clean hahahahaha.no proublem though...it always looks out of the box new and can deal with that.I back up my 10 rating. I will update my review in 4 months .thanks cnet!!!!!! giveing the owners a board to update there opinion is the best!!!! I hope more users that own the products that the opinion is based on will update letting the new buyer as well as the users know how there doing.this is very helpfull for the newbuyer.

Fast, Feature Packed and Gorgeous... Perfect!
Pros: Excellent performance (from gaming to video editing), feature packed (hey it's even a TV), beautifully designed (if even my fiancee likes it... well it must be perfect)
Cons: It can't be autonomous for long, It's expensive (but you get what you pay for)
LCD is sharp and color rendition is accurate. Viewing DVD's on it is a real pleasure.
Also, an important note, I'm experimentally editing High Definition (HD) video on this unit and it's working flawless. What more could I ask for?
One downside to the whole deal is the battery autonomy time; it's short. But all these features, fast processor, huge LCD, optical drive and GPU need power so if you need autonomy this is not a notebook for you. I need absolutely no autonomy so these few hours I sqeeze out of my Quosmio are a bonus for me.
I bought this unit to use it as an easily movable workstation/multimedia and/or entertainment center not something I intended to use without nearby power outlets and that's the reason I give it a 10 - it deserves even higher.
P.S One more thing, this particular notebook gave me absolutely no problems in terms of crashes or other misbehaviour - something I was more than used to while working on my desktop.
