Pros: Pros ("required"): It worked for a while
Cons: Factory support AWFUL; reloading factory software = "WRONG MACHINE!" after warranty expires; Toshiba tech said chipset defect ("security") caused it...
Summary: t worked fine during the warranty period.
Then I tried to re-load the factory software with XP, which I had done twice during the warranty period with no problem, but got a "WRONG MACHINE!" message. On the internet I googled "wrong machine toshiba" and found what was supposed to be a software fix from toshiba.com; it didn't work. So I called Toshiba. The tech said it was a chipset failure which had to do with a security feature and that I had to send it in, for a charge, to an authorized dealer. He said it was not due to a bios update that could be fixed with software. This seemed like a contradiction: on the web Toshiba offered a software fix as if it was a bios flash issue. The tech claimed it was a hardware problem. I ended up paying for my own copy of XP to run it. Just a few drivers were missing. Guess what? Toshiba didn't want to share the drivers to make it work!!! I was able to get drivers in spite of Toshiba, luckily. What next?
