"Wanted a better Computer..." on by BKloppenborg
Pros: Light weight Fast enought for what i wanted to do..
Cons: Toshiba CS, Thing broke down more then a FORD!!!
Summary: Well this was my Second Computer i had a Compaq EVO-180 before this which was ALOT better anyways this thing is really light weight and decently fast... Well when i got it i got the extended warrenty with it 2 yrs compared to 1.. Well after 1 year: Battery Was Deader then door nail, Lasted 3 min before died=not good for school, Fan died 2 times, Sound card died/Issues and keyboard is just cheap keys break to EZ..
So this thing is not durrible at all, plus Even though it was still under warrenty Battery Not covered, And then they never got extended warrenty on file only had 1 yr. Even with proof they still didn't do anything... Avoid this computer not even worth what i paid sale 600 dollers!! -
"Disappointed" on by tyman77
Pros: 15"screen, DVD/CDRW
Cons: Gets HOT!, Only runs 45 min. on battery
Summary: I bought this Toshiba notebook thinking it would be as reliable as my 7yr old Toshiba 4000CDS, turns out I was wrong. I bought this toshiba in August of '03 from Best Buy for around $699 after rebates. I have not used the laptop very much in the two years I've owned it.
However I have had problems with it. That battery gave me problems right from the start and had to have it replaced, also the screen has a dark spot in the lower right hand corner of the screen, and currently the cooling fan is giving me problems. It has gotten very loud, in fact it roars, you can feel the vibration in the keyboard and it now runs continually. I'm assuming it is getting ready to quit, just as the others have described on their reviews. Its very diappointing, toshiba tech support has not been helpful. Even though I used to be a Toshiba fan and even bragged about my 4000CDS, I have no intentions of purchasing another Toshiba after this experience. -
"Good machine for the buck" on by koine2002
Pros: Price, speed, storage and durability. Great compatibility with Linux too
Cons: Cooling fan, heavy and not enough ports
Summary: Overall, this laptop has served me well. I've taken it all over the world. It survived bumpy busrides through the mountains of Tibet--thought it is quite heavy. It is quite a zippy machine and a year and a half later it is still quite fast. One problem, I had to have the cooling fan and HDD replaced within the first year since the fan started to fail. I'm also wishing I had either A/V capability or S-Video as I do a lot of presentations and not everywhere I go has an LCD projector. I even ran Linux on the machine for a while before I had to take back the partition for storage purposes on Windows. Another drawback is that the screen surface gets permanent marks very easily.
