"Extremely nice laptop"
Pros: Sufficient processsing power
Nice lcd screen - good mix of size vs. portability
built in videocam - nice for skype
Toshiba does an excellent job of setting up laptops
- excellent sounds, desktop graphics, nice extras
Laptop feels solidCons: Not much
Summary: Bought this for my daughter for college.
Comes with a fair amount of bloatware, which was easily deleted
Best Buy price was better than list, which was appealing.
It has a strong processor and decent battery life, especially compared to other laptops I use for work.
It comes with adequate memory (4 Gig) and a large hard disk (300 MB), which are a good match for the operating system. I do not expect to need to add memory or hard disk space for life of this machine, compared to other laptops with less memory and smaller hard drives.
We use Skype (free videophone software), so the built in videocam and microphones are appealing.
Case is very stylish. Review talks about easy smudging. Perhaps true, but not a deal breaker. Perhaps the other reviewer should wash their hands more.
This machine has the umph to be a very nice desktop replacement
- not underpowered for MS Office breed applications.
Reasonable amount of USB ports.
The battery is unusually shaped. It is not flush with the case, but has a cyllindrical protrusion over it's entire length, which acts as a stand for the laptop. The laptop does not have the ususal "legs" to tilt it, because the battery does this. The oversized battery is what extends the batter life, which is not good or bad, it just is. The battery does add weight: a fair trade-off for the 3+ hour useage time.
Have not worked with built-in FM radio, yet, but am impressed that Toshiba made it available - another nice touch, an extra which indicates Toshiba thought this through
It has a nice number of custom desktop screens in addition to those that ship with Vista, which shows Toshiba knows how to finish a laptop. Has the cool Toshiba sounds, too, another nice touch.
I have used laptops for work for over 20 years. I build desktop computers for a hobby. This is a very nice laptop.
It feels solid. It exudes quality. I would definitely consider buying another Toshiba laptop.

Just read your review of the Toshiba A305-S6858. I purchased one on 10/8 specifically to use with SKYPE. Every time I make a call, it works for about 3 minutes then I get a Blue Screen with 'crash dump' notification. I have to manually shut down and reboot and go in safe mode. Message on Blue Screen says it's possibly caused by new hardware/software installation. The only thing I installed was SKYPE. I've gone to Toshiba forum and am unable to get a solution/answer. Am wondering if you've had the opportunity to use SKYPE and if it works OK for you. Thanks for a response!!
