"Warning! Toshiba is not what it use to be, steer clear." on by toshibastinks

    Pros: Good Look
    Has good power
    owned for 2 years
Powerful sound system (better and louder than most laptops when watching movies)

Cons: No lighted key board (doesn't sound like much but you will eventually need it)
Hard drive crashed with in 2 years
    The Finish scratches easy
    TERRIBLE customer service

    Summary: Good-by Toshiba forever !!!!!

Hard drive crashed 2 years after purchase
Went to get it fixed at computer store and they said I had the wrong recovery disc (the one that came with the laptop) so I called Toshiba, after an hour on hold they told me I had to buy another recovery disc (pay for licensing and shipping) Wow! they package the wrong disc and I pay for their mistake. I told them I was willing to pay shipping but not for license since I already on the laptop the disc comes with plus it was their mistake. The guy was as cold as ice and repeated the price and conditions as if I could not understand english. Basically he told me like it or leave it so I am leaving it! The worst part is I just bought a new Toshiba laptop for my wife and Skype will not work on it properly. Toshiba is not the brand I once new! Hope this helps someone.

"Not worth the money" on by BinarMn

    Pros: - Decent specs

Cons: - Fusion finish picks up fingerprints relentlessly
    - Constantly breaks
    - Crap benchmarks

Summary: I bought this laptop a year ago. Four months after buying it, the CCFL inverter board died on me. I'm a college student and if was going to take at least half a month to have the laptop fixed, which could have easily been done without having to ship it to Timbuktu and back. In addition, I had to turn over all of my passwords to login to the laptop. I couldn't pull the hard drive either. Eventually, I splurged on a 1TB external hard drive, backed everything up, and shredded the hard drive with DBAN and sent it in. Got it back three weeks later.

For the last several months, the laptop has been overheating and idling around 90C. Toshiba refused to service it under warranty. I recently started working for a local computer repair company and we recently became a certified Toshiba service center, so I tore apart the laptop, cleaned out the side vent and the fan, and put some Article Silver on the CPU and chipset. There wasn't much on either to begin with. Now it's idling around 55C - 60C while sitting on the desk.

"Good Performance and sleek!" on by rachellee32190

Pros: I found this computer for much less than $750, and so it was more than worth it. Has little to no problems, works well enough for games like WOW if you cannot afford better. Sleek interface, love the touch buttons for music playing. Huge screen!

Cons: It does smudge easily, but a quick wipe with your sleeve resolves that. It doesn't load programs extremely fast, but it isn't critical. One of my USB ports are dead, but there are 4 in all so that hasn't crippled the computer.

Summary: Overall, I found this computer for a bargain so I am more than happy with it. About the general outside of the computer: it does smudge some, but like I said, a quick wipe with your sleeve fixes that. I love the placement of the speakers and there is a line of touch buttons that allow you to press pause/play, mute, next, previous without having to change screens, and one opens up the really awesome media program that came with the computer. The screen is huge, and comes with a built-in web camera and microphone. The program that comes along with the web camera isn't the most exciting program but it is pretty user friendly. The microphone can make you sound quiet, but essentially all embedded microphones will be like that. You can plug another microphone into it though. It also comes with an SD slot, 4 USB drives, a LAN port, and quite a few other slots. I'm not super tech savvy, and most look like they're meant for older objects, so if you have an old printer that doesn't use USB, you're in luck.

I would highly recommend updating the driver for the video card when you get it. The computer comes with a Microsoft rating of 2 (out of 5) and as soon as you update it, it bumps up to a 3. It really helps with games like the Sims and WOW. The performance on games like those aren't perfect but definitely good enough for a laptop.

Programs don't load extremely fast all of the time. If you are a business person who needs programs up fast, this isn't for you. I'm a student and the load isn't crippling for me at all. As soon as everything is loaded, it works fine.

I haven't noticed any problems with the speakers at all, but if you are a speaker enthusiast, apparently they are not amazing according to the review above. I like the placement of them, and sound works just fine.

The hinge is one long hinge, which for me is great. My last laptop had two small hinges, and ended up breaking in half. It feels extremely sturdy, not just plastic that can break easily. This is my first computer with Vista as well, and honestly I really don't mind it at all. To me, it's a little more user friendly.

The only major problem I ever have is connecting to the internet, but I think that it is my internet's problem, not the computer itself. It usually connects pretty easily to other wi-fi networks.

If you have managed to read all of this, I would suggest trying to find this computer on sale. I did not realize that the normal price is $750, I found it for around $600 and I'm very happy with it for that price. It's the perfect computer for students, and if you're a gamer who doesn't have a lot of money to spend, then this is a good one.
