"Advanced Features for Economical Price" on

Pros: If you are wanting power and performance, the S231 has it with plenty left over. With 3.33 GHz Pentium 4 548 Hyper-Threading, this computer is quick. Then I noticed the 100 Gig Hard Drive. I purchased this notebook wanting it to remain viable for years

Cons: I suppose Windows XP Pro would've been nice (as the S2311 lists). Toshiba offers pricier notebooks, giving you a 17" screen. My question is... Why? I don't want my portable computer to be so large that it becomes less 'portable'. The S231 is a sweet m

"A good notebook but . . ." on by Upgrader

Pros: HT Processor, DVD-RW, HDD Space (100)

Cons: Screen Loose, Keyboard moves, USB will get loose

Summary: The HT processor is 3.33 GHz, you can run Premiere Pro 1.5 and the CPU Usage is 30% to 40% and still run Photoshop CS without reach 50%. The screen looks good to me but it is a little loose, The keyboard is the same it moves when you type, In the Wi-Fi it gets better signal the the PCMCIA card from low to medium with the Same Wi-Fi Router. The batery runs up to 80 mins. with a DVD movie, The movies seems to freeze from time to time (but is not the Double Layer Transition). The construction of the plastics looks more fragile than previous models this one was made in China. The Video memory is 64m Shared .
I wonder if this notebook comes with DL DVD Burner, 512M more of RAM. and a little more screen Res. Other than 1280x800.

"Excellent Value for the money" on by Cheshire Cat

Pros: Large hard drive, dvd burner, hyper-thread, super-G wireless

Cons: The weight, the speakers are scratchy, shared memory for video

Summary: I love it. The is a good workhorse. Another 512MB of RAM would improve it, but it runs my photo editing software, web design software, network diagnostics, MS Word and MS Flight Simulator, sometimes all at once.

"Great Machine but..." on by tainted135

    Pros: Nice specs

Cons: Poor tech support, not customizable

Summary: I have had this laptop for about six months now. Just recently, my processor would overheat and shut off and my headphone jack was broken. I called tech support, and although rude and pushy, I got them to take a look at it to fix it. Well I got it back and the headphone jack is still broken, but they fixed the processor. I suppose the headphone jack is still not fixed because the tech guy didnt take the time to listen to me carefully and i doubt when they "fixed" it that they bothered to test it out to see if they really fixed it. And another thing, you can not upgrade anything on this laptop. Many recent video games do not support the radeon 9000, and toshiba will neither downgrade/upgrade any parts, nor will they allow you to exchange for a different model laptop. Overall it is a great computer, but I say nay to anyone who wants to buy this because of poor tech support and lack of upgradability.

"I like it, Good, but...." on by charu3

Pros: Good looking wide screen , ideal for student use, 3.3 GHZ processor speed is something worth the money, nice keyboard.

Cons: Fan sound is too high compared with any other laptops like Sony, HP, Dell...

Summary: A good looking laptop but even if its good performavnce than other laptops, if it gets heated up so fast and shuts down many times without any notification ..I lose all unsaved work..which is something NO user can accept today considering the market competition and advancements in technology. I run the recovery CD once and now its ok but still shuts down sometimes unexpectedly..ehich is very embarrassing...
