    "Great Value." on by pharside33

Pros: The price is great for what you get, the keypad is convenient.

Cons: The CD drive is really noisy and seems fragile.

Summary: Overall great computer so far, I did a lot of research for laptops in the $400 range. This one comes with 3gb/250gb hardrive, dual core processor AMD Athlon. No other laptop in this price range came close to those specs. I use Photoshop Elements and some other apps and have no problem with long loading times like I did on my desktop. And you can expand the memory if you need to, up to 8gb. All the negatives the editor mentioned, no webcam, bulky, ect.. i either didn't need or care about. Bottom line if you are looking for a more trendy sleek laptop spend the extra 200 dollars, if not this one will work great for you.

"Great Laptop PC!" on by Howdawg1

Pros: Even though it's not super slim as some can be, it is a very nice looking computer. It's speakers are not that bad either, as I expected it would be based on price. 10key to side is nice, and rarely seen on lower priced PC's.

Cons: Mouse pad touchy, and just think it needed to be more defined is all. Works very well. Just have to adjust to your liking. That's it!

Summary: I have owned many PC's and know a lot about them for the most part. I was just looking for a inexpensive laptop so I could take to work, and mess around on my couch with out going in to my home office. This was probably the "Best Buy" I have made in a few years - considering what I paid for it. I would have went as high as 599.00 for how this thing works, and what has installed. If your looking for a GOOD laptop that can do ANYTHING and with really good speed - this is it! You can even upgrade memory on this baby! I asked why so cheap and they are not making this model anymore in a few months, yet they will still service and ALWAYS have fixes as anything else. Basically get them why they are hot and still on the shelves. GO!

"Toshiba Satellite L505D S5965 Not reliable or effective" on by 77wheezie

Pros: It's small, cheap, great for checking email and surfing the web

Cons: It shuts down frequently all by itself after 5- 15 minutes of use. I've called Toshiba multiple times and have sent it in for repair twice and it still is not fixed. My one-year warranty is about to expire.

Summary: I like the convenience of the unit but I'm horribly disappointed with the response from Toshiba and their customer support technicians. I've called repeatedly and they attempt to fix over the phone only to find out the "fix" is not effective. Toshiba has recently instituted a new policy of charging for shipping to and from their repair depot as well ($14.95). I also understand Toshiba repair techs are home-based employees (contractors) and when I received my lap top back, the tech had downloaded numerous personal information items (recoreded calls, emails, letters sent, etc). When I've called for supervisors no one returns my calls. When I've called escalating to a higher technical support representative, no one returns my calls and I eventually have to call yet again. If I had to do over again I would not purchase a Toshiba product because of the performance of the unit and the quality of the customer service and repair.

"Not the greatest but for the price, it's awesome." on by AwesomeDude217

Pros: Overall good performance especially with a small price tag but the bulky appearance ruins it for me.

    Cons: Bulky.
    Hotter than most laptops.

Summary: I've had this laptop since it was released and after all that it has been through, I'll say it's pretty durable. I have torn it apart for upgrades and put it back together multiple times and have had it stepped on a few times. Still works like it should.

Oh and I'm a power user. I use this laptop for Gaming, photoshop, video editing, and Dj'ing parties.

So far it has been great. I did modernize this laptop so I can use it for another year or two. I upgraded the WLAN card to a B/G/N, blacked out the exterior, upgraded the ram to 6Gb, and installed Windows 7 64-bit.
Also to fix and/or upgrade this laptop is very affordable.

My dog seems to like it too. He even stepped on the keyboard and tried to chew on the screen. Still runs great and no hardware failures that past 2 years.

"Not For The PC Novice, Design Flaws-Guaranteed Problems" on by Laptop-First

    Pros: -Good Value
    -Sturdy Design
    -Lots of Memory/Storage
    -DVD Re-Writable

Cons: -Vent design causes it to run hot, will unexpectedly shut down b/c of this.
-Very sensitive (and almost invisible) mouse pad, also won't register or will skip movement sometimes
-Battery life significantly reduces after about a year to an hr tops, even in

Summary: This is not technically my first laptop, but the one I owned before it came out in the early 90's, so it might as well be. I came across this site looking into an issue with the PC suddenly shutting down on its own. It seems that it will do this when it gets too hot, which happens after any use longer than 15-20 minutes, unless you have it magically suspended in the air. The vent 'in' is on the bottom which is only suspended about a quarter inch from a flat hard surface, so not a good "Lap" top. The vent 'out' is located on the side directly beside it, so it's essentially just sucking a lot of that hot air it's blowing out right back in. It's not very user friendly for PC novices like myself, who just understand the basic functions and don't know the difference between a megabyte or a gigabyte. I got this Laptop for school and the deciding factor honestly was mostly b/c of the 10key pad. The speakers are also very quiet, which becomes worse when compounded with the loud fan. I don't have external speakers so sometimes I have to put my ear to the speaker, plus the volume seems to not stay at the level you set it to and will steadily decrease every time you get on.The 'finger' mouse pad is level with the rest of the keyboard and the only thing distinguishing it is a clear rough square. It's sensitivity sucks and will sometimes skip across the page with little movement or start auto scrolling a lot when using both mouse buttons and finger scroll. Battery last up to 3 hours on eco setting when brand new, a year later luck to get even one, though the indicator will say over two. Toshiba/Vista has a lot of start up programs and over time more begin running at startup making it very slow sometimes. Even when it was only a few months old it started taking forever to shut down or not at all (I would shut it down and walk away to go to bed, only to open it the next afternoon to see a rotating circle that said shutting down) and the only option is to manually by holding down the power button, seems to increase in frequency over time. Also heavy to lug around, but has big screen. No indirect screen black out or webcam. And the DVD button location makes it annoying b/c it gets hit or tapped often causing it to 'pop out'. *BREAKDOWN* If you want basic functionality and compatibility for current technology this is a good deal. Note though that its problems tend to increase in frequency and functions reduced after a while, so don't expect to own it for 5+ yrs. Otherwise, for the price this "Lap" top makes for a very good compact "Desk" top if you know what I mean. Can't recommend or not on the Toshiba brand, but do not recommend this model.
