"Good affordable laptop for students (Quiet keyboard!!). Has all features needed for the classroom."
Pros: small, lighweight, good screen resolution and colors, Accepts all memory cards, external e-sata drive slot., DVD-CD combo drive with DL support., DVD +/- etc.
Cons: manual which came with computer poorly written. Download online Toshiba manual (much better)
Summary: Bought this computer at Costco for $839 for my daughter who is in university and required a small easy to carry around laptop. Has ample speed to do what students will be doing (hopefully not watching videos). MS OFFICE 2007 Student version performs well. All applications run at an acceptable speed for this build. Regarding battery life: In my opinion all the laptops suffer from dismal battery life except perhaps the fujitsu 7 inch screen (6-7 hr battery life)although I have not had a chance to test this unit. However the screen size may not be acceptable to all. If you want to run games, DVDs get the desktop replacement Laptop (hard to lug around though) + 2 batteries.
We use the HP tablet 2710 at our work place and have 4 batteries + an external battery charging unit. We run only work related applications at full performance on battery. We get approx 2 hours battery life. Running on suggested power scheme for battery not acceptable. Difficulty reading screen (too dark), Hard drives stop causing network sync problems plus a multitude of other annoyances.
