"DO NOT BUY TOSHIBA LAPTOPS THEY ARE A PIECE OF GARBAGE!" on by ActorEd
Pros: NONE WHATSOEVER!
Cons: FLIMSY DESIGN, PC CRASHES EVERY FEW WEEKS AFTER USING SOFTWARE THEY PROVIDED OR SIMPLY WHEN BOOTING UP! THIS U505-SERIES LAPTOPS. WE HAD THIS LAPTOP FOR LESS THAN 1 YEAR AND I HAVE HAD IT WITH THIS COMPANY WHO "SO FAR" (DESPITE MY ONGOING FIGHT WITH THE C
Summary: DON'T BUY TOSHIBA PRODUCTS AT ANY COST. YOU WILL BE SORRY. IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO GET A HOLD OF THE PEOPLE IN CORPORATE BY PHONE, THEIR CALL CENTER AND "SUPPOSED" CORPORATE OPERATORS JUST KEEP GIVING YOU THE RUN-AROUND, AS EXPECTED. YOU HAVE TO SEND A CERTIFIED LETTER TO ONLY A MANAGER OF CUSTOMER RELATIONS, WHO I AM TOLD HAS THE AUTHORITY TO REPLACE THE CURRNET UNIT WITH A NEW ONE , AS THEY SHOULD. YOU WOULD NEVER HAVE THIS PROBLEM WITH DELL OR APPLE AND EVEN HP! I KNOW THIS BECAUSE OUR FAMILY HAS 4 PC's 3 LAPTOPS AND 2 DESKTOPS, IRONICALLY AND "COINCIDENTLY" I MIGHT ADD, ONE OF WHICH WAS EASILY REPLACED BY MANAGEMENT AFTER A SERIES OF ONGOING ISSUES ON MY DELL DESKTOP THE XPS 9000, THAT AS AN ENTERTAINER AND PROFESSIONAL ACTOR ARE USED PROFESSIONALLY ALONG WITH MY APPLE IMAC TO RECORD AND COMPOSE MUSIC AND MAKE VIDEOS. WE ARE VERY TENCIOUS AND ADAMANT ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND ARE DEMANDING A NEW REPLACEMENT OR REFUND. EVEN IF THIS MEANS SLANDERING THIS HORRIBLE COMPANY TO DEATH ALL OVER THE INTERNET AS WE WILL NOT LET UP UNTIL A NEW "LIKE" REPLACEMENT OR REFUND IS GIVEN, PERIOD! tHEY HAD THE AUDACITY TO TELL US PRIOR TO WANTING TO REPAIR THIS PILE OF JUNK THAT IT WIOULD COST US AN ADDITIONAL $175, DESPOITE THE WARRANTY!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME! THAT IS OUTRIGHT EXTORTION AND TOTALLY UNETHICAL AND UNPROFESSIONAL AND BORDERS ON BIG COMPNAY FRAUD! i WILL SET AN EXAMPLE OF THIS COMPANY AND IT'S EVIL PRACTICES, IF IT COMES DOWN TO HIRING AN ATTORNEY IN THE END.

"Best Laptop I've Ever Owned" on by marcs21
Pros: Approximate 2-hour battery life with the 6 cell battery, light, crisp vibrant display.
Cons: Keyboard spongy.
Summary: I absolutely love this laptop. Lightweight, fast processor, good battery life (using the 6-cell), aesthetically pleasing. I use the laptop for both personal/business use. The person in the earlier post apparently has a hardware problem, as my webcam works great. I've owned Compac, Dell, Acer and HP, and the U505 puts them all to shame. My last pc was an HP, which crashed due to their recommended BIOS update. HP refused any technical assistance because the warrant expired 6-days earlier. Sent me to the geeks, who wanted $300.00 for the repair, stating the BIOS patch ruined the motherboard (BS). I then took the unit to an independent repair shop, and, 40 minutes later, and for only $45.00, I was back in service. I've owned (4) HP laptops, there won't be a 5th thanks to their customer support and lack of dedication to their product. And guess what, Toshiba's customer support line is actually staffed by people who speak very clear ENGLISH, and who are polite and articulate........(Hint, Michael Dell........please read the aforementioned paragraph regarding the English spoken by the C.S. reps). Forget the others, buy a Toshiba.

"Very good laptop for your money, long battery life." on by NeshmaPR
Pros: Outstanding battery life. About 5 to 6 hours with Toshiba Eco Mode activated!! Although there is new tech coming out on processors, this one is fast and works extremely well with several programs running. Very cool illuminated keyboard feature.
Cons: Its best feature also contributes to its worst. The long battery life it has is powered by a bulky 12 cell battery that awkwardly sticks out to the bottom on the back of the computer, making it uncomfortable for lap use.
Summary: I don't know what kind of laptop the previous reviewer has, I use Skype everyday for meetings without ever a single problem. The webcam and microphone work perfectly!!
The laptop has very useful features I love like an HDMI port, a backlit keyboard rarely seen on laptops at this price range, and the Toshiba's Sleep and Charge port, which enables you to charge devices that are connected to one of its USB ports while the computer is off, sleeping or hibernating. This one I found specially useful as a student who spends long hours at college, I just connect my phone to it, put it all on my laptop bag and leave it there for awhile to recharge it when an a/c adapter is not available.
The U505 also has media buttons right above the keyboard that are very sleek, also illuminated that allow me to control the music playing without opening the media player, although they originally make a really annoying beep it can be turned off on its settings.
All in all I found this laptop nearly perfect, its size, the illuminated keyboard (thumbs UP!), its texturized exterior (very original) and its ability to hold memory hogging programs such as Media Player, PDF reader, Word, Power Point, messengers and internet browsers all at the same time without a problem make me give it 4 out of 5 stars! -
"DON'T BUY ANY TOSHIBA IF YOU WANT TO USE SKYPE VIDEO" on by hawaiidolfan
Pros: an okay computer, I guess
Cons: False advertising with their webcam!!! If you want to use Skype video ABSOLUTELY DO NOT BUY A TOSHIBA LAPTOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't believe the Skype video sticker!!! You're just gonna have to buy another computer!
Summary: DON'T BUY A TOSHIBA LAPTOP IF YOU INTEND TO UTILIZE THE WEBCAM!!! IT WILL GIVE YOU THE BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH AND CRASH AND RESTART YOUR COMPUTER EVERY 5 MINUTES OR SO!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just use Google and you can see that the problem has existed for more than a year and it still has not been fixed . . . but they still have the Skype video sticker on their laptops!!!
Toshiba DOES NOT even have the capability of fixing the problem according to at least 3 technicians and a person from CUSTOMER support!!! "Customer" support???!!! Really?!!!
They WILL NOT refund your money even though they have that Skype VIDEO sticker attached right next to the webcam basically telling the consumer that if you buy this laptop, you can use Skype video!!! I told the customer support representative that the sticker was basically a lie . . . false advertising used to sway consumers to buy a product that can't even deliver!
I will NEVER buy a Toshiba product again!!!!!!! I don't care if it's a DVD player, TV or any other Toshiba device!!!
Basically, their response is thank you for your hard-earned money, but what we advertised doesn't work . . . too bad!!! Furthermore, you can't get it fixed NOR can you get a refund for a defective product!!! . . . nor, will we refund the extended warranty that you purchased!!!
Buy a HP, a Lenovo, an Acer or even a Dell!!
