Cons: Paper curling
Summary: Hi. Just got this printer a few days ago and it's my first laser printer. This thing ROCKS! I took another reviewers advice and opened all the plastic and let it sit for about day, to get acclimated (couldn't hurt right?), and then proceeded to install. Installation was easy and even hooking it up to a router didn't take that long, especially since I don't hook up printers everyday. The Quick Setup guide is very well laid out and the software CD even has animations showing exactly what to do during setup, which I thought was cool. Once you install the drum and toner, put in the paper and plug the thing in it's off to the races. Warm up takes only 3 to 6 seconds! The test page printed quickly and flawlessly on good quality ink jet paper (92). NO MORE SMUDGES! I took sweaty fingers and then water to the print and it would not smudge at all. The text is sharp and dark and the graphics are really good. Some complained it was noisy but as another reviewer mentioned, and I agree, it seems quieter than my old ink jet. Obviously, the noise is from the fan which goes off not long after the print job's completed. Another reviewer mentioned the curling and that it does do. But from what I've read and seen all laser printers do it to some extent. This one only shows curling at the tops and bottoms of pages. If your doing something important like a resume, I'd just put the pages under a book or something and that would flatten it. Brother offers a wireless USB adaper(NC 2200w) that's optional for printing in wireless environments. It costs between 175 and $200 (salty) depending on where you get it. Also, the print options are extremely customizable from the print setup or options buttons. There's even a button in printer options for updating the driver! Price was also a deciding factor; rebates are floating around out there for about $50-60 dollars off. Which means this printer could be had for well under $100 bucks. Overall, I'm very impressed with this printer. Also, Staples you rock too. Ordered it on Wednesday and they had it out the next day for free! Gotta love that! I'll update after I mess around with labels, envelopes and such in a few months. Thanks Brother and keep up the great work.
