"Bad experience"
on by sc0ttr0Pros Fast technical support.
Cons Color was faded.
Summary The first unit I received was faulty. The technical support was VERY good in getting a replacement. The second unit provided very light colors. I adjusted settings for hours trying to get more vivid color but to no avail. It just looks faded.
After changing one color toner the first time, ALL the colors are begining to look smeared and blotchy. I'll be talking with tech support about it today. I'll post again with my results. -
"Get ready to pay for unsed toner!"
on by dean114Pros It works but..
Cons The printer overestimates toner usage.
Summary Even though my color printing is minimal (a couple of blue dots on a monthly report) the HL-4040CN mysteriously manages to run out of all 3 colors at once and will not operate until the toner cartridges are replaced. Even if you want to just print in B/W the system will not operate unless the color cartridges are replaced. My Cyan, Magenta, and yellow all have quite a bit of toner at the moment and the printer is claiming they are empty. I believe the printer is counting the total number of pages it creates regardless if they are B/W or color and using this as a determining factor of when toner needs to be replaced. Again, I print 95% B/W and the color cartridges are all in need of replacement again. My feeling is that Brother is banking huge on consumables for this printer and has to take a look at how consumable usage is determined for this printer. I do not see myself purchasing another Brother printer.

"Great printer for your money"
on by rwoodhicksnationPros Print quality, speed and price. High yield color toner replacements is the only affordable way to go.
Cons Machine is slow when using manual duplexer funtion. Standard color toner replacements are pricey.
Summary Prints better than our Canon 9100i inkjet which really surprised me since the canon printer is made for photo printing. HL-4040cn is extremely fast. I can print our marketing sheets and not have to wait around for hours as I did in the past with the Canon. Great price for the quality prints that it produces. Highly recommended!

"Unhappy with this printer!!!"
on by sppon52Pros Rarely ever jam
Cons The printer will not work when it recognizes that one of the color cartridges are low.
There is no way to bypass the cartridge when you really do not need the color. It cost 74.99 to change the color cartridges, there are 3.Summary The cost of replacing all three of the color cartridges are as much as the cost of the printer itself. I changed out my C cartridge tow months ago, and when I replaced the M and Y,, the C cartridge stopped working. I do not use coloroften, and I don't undestand why the C is saying to replace, toner life end. I am trying to sell my printer, and I will not purchase another brother printer

"To expense on toners, ink. tec"
on by emmettwade69Pros Extremely fast and built solid. Great color printing
Cons If you need to purchse toner it cost about $69 for each color. Drum cost $130. Toner waste box $25. Belt around $125. Your looking at $547 to keep it running. Too expensive and not worth it.. Cheaper to purchase a new machine.
Summary The bottom line this machine is way over priced at $399...and I'll never buy another color laser printer. Your better off purchasing a new machine because the color office jets are getting better and better. Not to mention you can buy one at $159.00 new.
