    "Dirty Print Outs!!!!"

by spamtomb on July 19, 2007

Pros: Dirty prints eliminates all Pros!!!

    Cons: Extremely Dirty Print Outs!!!

Summary: This is worst printer ever! The printer spits out extremely dirty print outs. The entire page is covered in gray. I got it as a new printer three to four years ago at Frys Electronics. (I don't remember the exact year.) I don't print a lot - maybe on average of one page per week at most. Less than one year, all my pages started having this grey color. I cleaned the drum by wiping down on roller and rolling the gears as I clean. I used an air duster to blow away any toner. It was clean as a whistle. I then placed it back into the printer. My prints were a little bit better, but there was that visible grey cloud cover over the entire page. I agree with another used that it wouldn't work for resumes or college projects. It certainly wouldn't work for some kind of business proposal. Your customers would be laughing thinking that you can't afford a decent printer with clean print outs. I thought that prehaps there were some areas that I didn't clean the first time. I planned to clean it again, however, I got busy and didn't touch my printer for two long years. Over the last two years, it got progressively worst. The grey was getting darker. Today, I decided to bite the bullet and clean it again. I took out the toner and drum and cleaned both of them. They were spotless! Then I took a dry towel and wiped the window on the upper inside mouth of the printer as Brother had suggested on their website. The pages came out cleaner. BUT....there was that persistant grey again. It never went away. It only decreased. Believe it or not, after all that cleaning, print outs are still NOT suitable for resumes, college projects or business proposals! The Brother website says that once the toner is low, it causes grey print out. BALONEY!!!!!! When I was cleaning my drum and toner cartiages today, my toner was very heavy, indicating that it was still full of toner. It wasn't even have empty. That's because I only print out no more than one page a week on average. I've used HP printers at work and I know what an empty toner cartiage feels like. My Brother toner cartiage was absolute FULL and felt heavy. As a matter of fact, it's still brand new!!! In addition to that, my toner indicator on the face of the printer never once lit up telling me that the toner was empty!

I truly REGRET purchasing this printer. I bought it because I believe in Japanese quality. Who would ever of thought that Brother was making the worst laser printers in the world!

Don't buy this Brother HL-1440 laser printer from EBay or anyone else. You will soon discover that it's a LEMON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brother, you owe me $500 dollars for the printer and the extra toner cartiage that I bought plus all the headaches!

I had the exact same problem with my Brother 1440 after less than a year. It was particularly disappointing because my husband had the same model for several years with no difficulties at all.
