"This printer is one of the best printers for home and home-office needs with good quality print."

by alezan on August 2, 2005

Pros: 1 pass tech., quiet, excellent text quality, acceptable graphics and photos, looks good (compact design and light), reliability from HP, a lot of kind of paper for printing, easy to use.

Cons: Print a little bit slow, there is not the documentation in the package (only electronic version).

    Summary: POSITIVE:

1 pass tech., quiet, excellent text quality, acceptable graphics and photos, looks good (compact design and light), reliability from HP, a lot of kind of paper for printing, easy to use, comfortable manual feed, low power consumption (16 Watt in standby and 190 Watt in work mode).

    NEGATIVE:

Print a little bit slow, there is not the documentation in the package (only electronic version), only one real tray but it?s very good and suitable for many purposes, no support PostScript 3. Impassable to increase memory and doesn?t have an auto-duplex. I could not find a laser photo paper in Canadian stories.

    HARD CHOICE:

In the first place I want to say thanks so much every one who gives yours opinions because that so useful especially for whom who wants to buy something but has a doubt and also thank CNET for that they are.

I could not decide a whole month which printer I want to buy under $1000. I researched CNET a lot of times I read each opinion again and again but every time I got headache more and more. I did not have a color laser printer before and I could not know what it is good and what it isn?t good. I had the next purposes: to buy a color laser printer for home-office using, printing the brochures, fliers and business documents and of course like everyone I wanted to buy more for less, excellent text, graphics and photo quality printing for the reasonable cost. I picked out three models like main candidates for purchasing: Dell 3100cn, Lexmark 510n and Konica-Minolta 2430dl. Lexmark I removed from my list because it very noisy and it curls a paper (It?s conclusion based at reviews and user?s opinions only), I don?t know why but Konica-Minolta didn?t inspire inside my heart and it has hi power consumption ? up to 600 Watt and higher in work mode. Dell is bulky and heavy (70 lbs). And also all printers have 4-pass print mode. About HP LaserJet 2600n I read but didn?t want to think about it because this print has low CNET rating ? 5.8 from 10.

As I sad above I was choosing a printer a long time and at the end of the day I became tired. I decided to give up from hi quality printing Dell 3100n and to buy HP 2600n. I felt myself very depressed because I didn?t find that I wanted and I will buy printer with not enough print quality for my purposes but I was mistaken!

O, my God. It?s happened. I bought HP 2600n and drive home as fast as possible I cannot wait any more I wanna see print quality this printer. I flied inside home with 16 kg. box on my hands and move directly to basement. In during 15 minutes I unpacked printer, installed drivers, removed protection tapes from cartridges and print first demo page ? O my God! It was enough for me I won, for less I got more. I cannot say you that this printer to print excellent but I can absolutely say you that HP says truth about this model: This printer is excellent for entry level purposes and has excellent performance for this price.

In my opinion this printer is one of the best printers for home and home-office needs with good quality print which acceptable for many purposes but this printer it isn?t enough for corporate using because it prints not speedily. I won?t write about quality print because the best way will be if you yourself look at example pages and do own conclusions.

    alezan,
Thank you for going to the effort to write such a thorough review and posting links to photos, graphics and text printed on your 2600n. I've been looking for a laser that does a suitable job on photos so I can get rid of piezo head printers for sublimating various items. This would be perfect.
