"If it actually works out of the box, it's a good printer" on by mvagenas

Pros: Good color, clean printing, fairly fast

Cons: out of 6 printers purchased, 3 DOA, 1 problematic, 1 worked and last one never unboxed

Summary: I have never seen a problem like this with HP products and was stunned. I will give their tech support and customer service kudos for dealing with this quickly, but in my experience, the product is junk. 1st setup was flawless so I ordered 2 more, both of which had noisy mechanical problem and never worked. While returning those, I ordered a 4th. It printed all blue pages. 2 replacements arrived, first one had same mechanical problem as #'s 2&3. Last one never unboxed and all are going back.

I ordered two 2600n Laserjet printers and were planning to order another two from a very large and reputable national technology store in Sydney....I bought Hp because of their reputation and already owing 3 Hp very good products. I brought the first 2600n home. On initial power-up .. Error 59.9 appeared on the LCD display. I followed display instructions..."Turn off power and then power on again" (wait >30 seconds)..then I went to HP help pages on the net..."Engine Hardware Problem", I repeated the previous instructions... I called Hp on the online support....They were helpful but I had to be passed to 3 different technicians (in all about 1 hour) however none were unable to rectify the problem.
It will be returned to the store tomorrow morning. I don't think I will risk collecting the second unit after reading the review on the 3600n on this site.... Of course I should have checked CNET first..

So - maybe I got lucky - but mine is fantastic - and one of the best buys we ever did in our small office. After the firmware fix - it's beyond expectations!

I recently purchased a 3600n at Staples. It was the last unit in stock, which is usually to be avoided. However, due to HP's reputation, I took it anyway. Needless to say, this unit was no good. When powered up, you can hear the motor humming, but the small LCD screen is blank. I tried several resets, but it is still dead. I hope Staples will take this crippled unit back.

Never buy the last unit in the store!
