Planning on writing the Great American Novel? You'll need a printer that can crank out page after page of text in double time. A personal laser printer should fit the bill. It can deliver epic amounts of crisp, legible text faster than Grisham finishes a new thriller. Personal laser printers start at around $150 or so, but they cost less to operate than inkjets do, so you can save up money for the book tour. Inexpensive, personal lasers are also a good option for college students busy churning out term papers.

Description: The HP Laserjet 1100 is an 8 ppm, black and white laser printer.Compared to other black and white laser printers on the market, it is expensive at around $570.This unit has a maximum resolution of 600dpi.
Pros: At 14" x13" x15", this printer doesn't take up much room, making it ideal as a desktop printer or for use in a small office.
Cons: Only prints at 8 ppm speed, which is slower than some similarly priced laser printers.For example, the HP Laserjet 1300N, at around $530, prints at 20 ppm speed.At 125 sheet, without additional trays, the HP Laserjet 1100 doesn't handle as many printouts between refills than do most of its competitors.
