"Extend your warranty"on by Progi
Pros Fast, large paper tray
Cons Noisy, Toner not same as 4300
Summary We have 8 4300's at our facility and they work great. Replacing the fuser's are a snap. We needed some more printers but given the option to get 3 4350's.
First, they require a different toner that will only work with the 4250/4350. Ok, I can deal with having another stack of toners and different replacement fusers.
2 of the 3 in 6 months of use have had to have extensive offsite repairs because of a grey gear located behind the fuser assembly fails. Not something you can easily repair but is a warranty item.
If you buy this printer, make sure to extend your warranty. Your gonna need it.
Oh and the noise? Yeah, thats the gear shreading. Don't put this printer on a desktop and have a spare handy.
Pros A good printer after a major part repair program was completed
Cons HP LazerJet 4350 - Printer sold with Faulty Swing Plate Assembly systems and cog wheel parts
Summary HP first batch of HP LazerJet 4350 were marketed and sold worldwide with two major design and manufacturing faults. Locum International Publishers have been using both small and large volume HP printers for close to 15 years (4Si, 5Si 8000 series etc).
Both HP LazerJet 4350 were delivered with faulty built-in firmware (software code on the internal printer chip) - this was detected by Locum engineers and corrected by HP with addition of new printer motherboards.
Secondly the HP LazerJet 4350 has a shelf life period for close to a million copies - however after less than 50 000 copies the Swing Plate Assembly drive cog (a 23 tooth black cog) started to disintergrate and powder on both machines within the same time period. The Swing Plate Assembly drives the fuser system which fixes the black toner onto the paper by heat and pressure.
This is a HP design and mechanical fault in the first production output of the 4320 and HP LazerJet 4350 which are 55 page per minute printers. In January 2006 HP admitted their HP LazerJet 4350 were badly engineered and faulty and provided a PDF printed fix on how to repair the HP LazerJet 4320 and 4350 printers with newly designed Swing Plate Assembly systems. (see HP email comments below)
What HP did not do is to inform their agent worldwide to notify clients and repair the faulty engineered drive systems. Customer with faulty printers were allowed to run their full waranty period without any notification from HP USA head office or global supplying agents who were aware that HP LazerJet 4350s were being sold with severely faulty components and crumbling cog wheels that eventually would destroy the drive gear, the costly drive engine and the very expensive fuser assembly.
For HP to notify their small and large customer and clients and then replace the $10 Swing Plate Assembly with the new design would have been the right corporate decision to protect HP global printer reputation. HP USA board of directors chose not to follow this path and somehow lost their moral compass.

HP USA WROTE TO LOCUM - September 2007
NOTE: Both the fuser gear and Swing Plate Assembly must be entirely replaced. The metal Swing Plate and gears have all been modified to fix this issue. Replacing only the gears will not facilitate a reliable repair. The metal Swing Plate must be replaced as a complete assembly as supplied in the repair kit. Additionally, replace the Fuser Pressure Release Gear that is supplied in the Swing Plate Assembly Repair Kit.

Pros Excellent print quality, fast
Cons Needs a fuser unit replacement long before end of life of unit
Summary The specified life of the fuser unit from the HP site claims 225 000 pages before a maintanance kit(fuser unit) is needed. HP already replaced two fuser units under warranty, before the end of life have been reached on any of them. The last fuser unit lasted only 95000 pages.
So be prepared to fork out for new fuser units when the warranty on the printer run out.
I can't out of personal experiece recommend this printer to anyone.
Relaibility on the hardware is not one of the strong points on this printer and spare parts
come at a premuim.
Pros HP 4350 laster jet printer
Cons With so many features cant work under solaris
Summary I am trying to print from Solaris 9, back to back with tray selecting option.
There is no driver to use lp package option
lp -d printername -o "duplex" -o "tray1" file-to-print
