"Color tones varies Fuser unit defect 2 USD per print" on by linotronic

    Pros: The exterior design only

Cons: No real guarantee support in Mexico, Fuser unit with a factory defect, poor quiality in small letters, color tones varies, consumables really expensive, really.

Summary: I´ve bought a magicolor minolta 7450, in Mexico at 5,000 USD, I´ve printed in 8 months only 10,000 copies, changed toners 3 times, and ask me change the fuser (specs says 120,000 copies) and only gave me 10,000 Minolta mexico reject my guarantee arguing the fuser is a consumable (yeah, it really consumes it itself), I think is a factory problem with the magicolor fuser units. I´ve spend near 2,000 USD only in toners so make the math, 2,000 USD for 10,000 copies?, It´s cheaper print your jobs in a copy center. Don?t even think buying minolta magicolor printers, poor small letters quality, frequent paper jams, no real photographic quality, color tones varies, no pantone matching support, really a true problem, if you´re graphic designer, and are planing print color proofs for your client approval, so imagine telling your client, ah, by the way the color you´ve approved will be more lighter at the offset final printing, does this sound logical?. Just try other printers, and chek first the price of consumables, or you´ll be trapped like me.

"Product does not deliver as the technical specs indicate." on by payne_jonathan

Pros: Toner lasts a long time. IF it prints without jamming, prints beyond the first print happen very quickly.

Cons: Constant jamming. Very slow to start the first print.

Summary: I purchased this printer due to the ability to print 11X17 sheets with the optional tray.

From the technical specifications, I had an expectation that the cost per print would be lower than with the HP1220C ink jet that this printer replaced. I also expected the printer to be much quicker per sheet.

If the printer worked as advertised, both of those cases would be correct. However, the printer constantly jams. When this occurs, time is wasting in fixing the jam and toner/paper are wasted. There have been times that, in order to get 5 copies of a 1 sheet document printed, I have gone through as many as 12 sheets of paper. This printer was originally purchased with the intent of being able to print as many as 200 copies of a document at once - that will not happen.

Due to the constant jamming problem, I find the printer to be both inconvenient and expensive to operate.

When contacting the technical support service (2 separate times over a 9 month period), the suggestions have been to clean the printer or use a higher quality paper. I have repeatedly cleaned all the rollers and dusted all the inner surfaces to no avail. The paper I use is much higher quality than what the technical specifications indicate should be needed (after all this is for printing presentation documents). The printer still jams 8 out of 10 uses.

    Updated
I finally found something positive about the printer. About two weeks past the manufacturers original warranty, it completely stopped functioning and gave a service call warning on the screen.

Fortunately, I had the extended on-site warranty. They did come very close to meeting the next day on-site as promised.

It does, however, still constantly jam. With the optional equipment that I purchased with the machine, I basically have a $4,000 space holder in my office.

"An excellent printer for the money!" on by JamisonDee

Pros: Great color, great black and white, reasonably fast

Cons: Software from the Mac platform is poor compared to the PC platform! It won't print overlays (PROOF, etc) from the Mac side and manual feed requires operator intervention.

Summary: Although they say the first page is out in 13 seconds or so, this is not true. Once it begins to print, multiple copies are fast but it can take the up to a minute to rip a single page in the printer.

Although I have not used the collating feature yet, a tech rep told me that when collating, the machine rips each page EACH TIME it is printed, instead of storing the ripped file on the optional hard drive. Assuming that is true, if one were to print and collate 100 copies of a 48-page book, at one minute per page, it could take up 80 hours to complete, not making it practical to use the collating feature!!!
