"Serious problems with grey background"
Pros: Duplex printing, fast
Cons: Grey background on all pages
Summary: I loved this printer when I first started using it--great print quality, quite fast, and duplex feature is very useful. But after only a couple hundred copies, I started getting a fairly dark grey background on all white pages. (Hazy mist of toner, evenly distributed). I've been through the FAQs on the Lexmark site and all that they suggest is replacing both the photoconductor and toner cartridges--a pricey proposition. I'm also hesitant to do this, not knowing if the new cartridges will only last me another couple hundred pages.
Bottom line--with completely unusable printouts, and no workable solutions, I'll likely end up throwing this printer in the trash and writing it off. Very frustrating. Stay away from this model.

I posted my own review a few days ago... this printer just continues to be a nightmare. Our pages now have a light gray tone to them - negates the fact that we buy BRIGHT white paper! I wish I had seen these reviews BEFORE buying - I read the Cnet review (which is glowing) but there were no customer reviews when I read it.

I faced exactly the same problem after not more than 800-1000 pages! I am completely disappointed. Also I met a driver problem (bug?), which I could not resolve. When I use the N-up feature, I take a borderline around each page. Firm's technician told me that either I had not installed correctly the driver or the driver (supplied by the manufacturer!) was not the right one, and suggested to download and instal a certain driver. In vain, nothing was settled! Don't buy this junk!

What he said! Wish I had read this negative feedback prior to purchasing this printer last month.
Printed output with consistent grey background is entirely unacceptable for our Real Estate practice, where excellent print quality is imperative.
Anyone else out there with similar print quality issues?
Do any Lexmark reps out there have constructive suggestions, now that we have confirmed multiple users reporting dissatisfaction and frustration with an otherwise excellent product?
Thanks!
