Pros: Speed. Appearance. Price.
Cons: Paper handling.
Summary: I thought that I was upgrading from my old HP 1020 printer at my desk. Wrong.
This machine cannot print patterns from Microsoft programs such as Excel (I don't mean it does it poorly. I mean it doesn't print patterns at all.) All patterns from MS Excel, whether cross hatching, diagonals, dots, etc., print as solid. I spoke at length with tech support at Okidata, and they conceded that it couldn't be done. I am still totally amazed. This is a real problem when doing charts or diagrams in Excel. The quality of digital photographs is not very good either, but this wasn't one of my requirements for a business printer, although it might be one of yours.
Paper handling is atrocious. The machine cannot hold more than 1 envelope at a time. Only the manual feed slot can be used.. . and then it jams often. The same problem occurs when printing time cards. If you have to print a large number of envelopes you might want to set aside a whole day. If you open the back door for a straight paper path, the back door slants downward rather than being level so that all printed items simply fall on the floor behind your desk.
The manual feed has very short paper guides, allowing the paper to wobble, so that often you get printouts that are slightly crooked.
I never did try the duplex feature, so I can't comment on whether it works or not.
The machine is also very noisy, although it is fast. The black case also looks very high-tech.
I had very high hopes for this machine, and I expected better from a brand-new model. Tech support at Okidata told me to return the machine to the dealer, which was the most useful thing that they said. I will be following their advice as soon as I get a replacement printer.
