Pros -Only $100 after rebate at Staples (Dec 2008)
-Crisp colors and monochrome
-Does very well handling various types of paper and cardstock.
-Duplexing feature is great, though I wish it was fully automatic.
Cons -Like all laser printers and copiers, it outputs ozone, which you smell.
-There's no dedicated cancel button.
-Only one paper tray and no fold out tray for manual feeding.
Summary I print nearly everyday. And, I print a variety of documents on this printer. It is by far the best laser I've used for under $400. Actually, the print quality is much better than the $1500 laser printers I use almost daily as well. The speed is on par with all others in this price range.
Also, there's a good duplexing feature built into the printer's software. So, all you need to do is take the paper out of the output tray and put it back into the input tray without any weird flipping, rotating, spinning plates, etc. The printer does the rest. And... I haven't once had it jam when doing this!!! If you've ever tried manual duplexing with other lasers, it's nothing like those. Trust me.
Pros Nice printer when it works.
Cons Jams frequently. Got it repaired within the 1 year warranty period and Samsung is not honoring the warranty so the 1 year warranty is not accurate.
Summary Prepare to have to repair it for approximately $ 150.00 for the jam issues and do not rely on a Samsung warranty - it is just hot air.
Pros prints good, very cheap.
Cons There is a manufacturing defect in all models of this. I was having paper jamming issues and called samsung for warranty service. Turns out there is a sensor that is prone to breaking that causes each and every page to jam.
Summary I have a lot of samsung products, but you might want to stick with an HP in this instance.
Pros Cheap and small
Cons Burning smell comes from the printer. And service centre says it is normal. Do not keep the printer inside the office or home, it is bad for your health
Summary Do not buy if you want to use it in closed environment
Pros Fairly quick for color documents. Does HEAVY cardstock and business card well. Toners are easy to exchange. Low noise, small footprint. 1200dpi
Cons No manual input tray, colors are off a bit, does NOT like textured stock paper or glossy stock. No duplex option.
Box says 2400 dpi effective, WRONG! Needs ALOT of power 350 watts
Summary In the best quality mode with the fine print turned on, this takes only me 6 seconds to print a full full color greeting card or 10 business cards on one page. Not shabby at all! One thing to note though, NEVER attempt to insert a glossy page into this model. Duh, no warnings were on the box to let anyone know what would happen. The toner will not leave the imaging roller and really mess up the next 15 prints. Only way to correct this issue is to print 2 FULL pages of each color, 8inch squares of blue, red, yellow and black onto plain paper. Also note that this particular printer has no "clean imaging drum" option" hence printing of the colored squares to transfer the leftover stuff onto other pages manually. On the same note, I have had this printer for 7 months now and even with its quirks, I have not had a single page jam yet. But then again I do not use the cheap copier paper. I use standard bright white recycled paper. Printing textured card stock is tricky but "do-able". Make sure you only put one page in the tray at a time. Even choosing "thick paper" or "cardstock" in the printer menu, it still does not give a completely satisfactory image on textured paper. It will end up getting a ink stamp look to your prints. It actually looks really good as long as you do not have a font size smaller than 18 point, give it a somewhat antique look which is sort of cool for greeting cards. I have also printed "clean edge business card stock" in this as well. Once again ONLY FEED ONE PAGE IN THE TRAY AT A TIME! They will come out gorgeous! and the printed material will not smear like inkjet in a wallet. However, I did print a sign for No soliciting. The toner while shiny does not appear to like outdoors at all. The prints will fade outdoors in about 2 weeks flat. strange.
On the good side again, presentations, flowcharts, blueprints and even home printed certificates come out stunning.
Why a 1200 dpi printer can do this while NOT being able to do high resolution photos, you got me.
I actually am surprised that a small color laser printer has surpassed my expectations as much as this has.
The quality and speed surpasses the Tektronics/Xerox Phaser printer lineup good enough I was able to finally retire my techtronics phaser 850dp even though i miss the duplexing option.
Puchased at Microcenter in Denver, Colorado when it was on sale for $149
Oh yea, make sure you have NOTHING else plugged into the same circuit, dont know how many amps this baby pulls but makes the lights flicker, not a defect but just uses alot of power... Guessing about 15 amps since I see a disco YIKES effect when plugged into the same outlet as my floor lamp. Resolved by moving to a nearby outlet that nothing else powers.
