"DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER!!!" on by Ken Dove
Pros: None that are worth the downside
Cons: Designed to scam you on toner
Summary: This printer was designed with 'kill chips' in the toner cartridges that force you to replace all 3 toner cartridges when it thinks that one of them is empty. There is no sensor in the cartridge - it's based entirely upon a page count. I have this in writing from a Samsung engineer. I also have photographic proof that the printer reports toner cartridges as empty when they aren't even close. Samsung designed this printer to rip you off. Don't buy it - or any other Samsung product.

"Heavy but full of features!" on by apeguero
Pros: Convenient printing options, Nice Color output, Silent, Sturdy, Nice Design, Great Price, Easy to Install and Use
Cons: Very Heavy, Networking Optional, Expensive Toner
Summary: I was considering two other printers before I bought this one. I was considering the Konica-Minolta 2450 and an OKI Color laserjet.
First of all, I didn't buy this printer to print my photographs. I bought this printer to replace my old and beat-up HP 1100 Laserjet. I bought this printer from BB for $364.99 and also got a $100.00 Mail in Rebate. At $264.99, buying a color laserjet made more sense then buying a monochromatic lasterjet printer.
The printer was very simple to install in Windows XP. All I did was plug in my own USB 2.0 cable and that was all. XP recognized the printer right away. No need to download any drivers or install anything additional. I didn't even open the software that came with it.
It really does take 9 seconds to print the first black and white page. It also really does take about 12 seconds to print the first color page. I used my wath to time it from when I hit print to when the print was available.
It also took the same amount of time to print an 8x10 color photograph. The quality was certainly not that like what you would get from the photo shop but then again, I used a normal laserjet sheet of paper. I'll test it later using photo qualitity paper.
The paper tray is easy to access. It takes 250 pages or so. There is also a Multi-Format Paper tray on the side that takes about 100 pages. You can load that one up with just about any kind of paper out there.
Here are some of the reasons for which I picked this printer over the Oki and the Minolta models:
1. Envelope printing in the Minolta requires for you to empty the paper tray, adjust the size of the tray, insert the envelope(s), close the tray, open the main lid, pull on two tabs, close the lid, then print. After all that, you have reverse the whole process to return to normal printing. OUCH! With the Samnsung printer, all you have to do is open the Media Tray on the side (like almost any other LJ printer out there), adjust the slider to your envelope's size, and print. That's it. Again, even though this is a color laserjet, I bought it to print a lot more then just photos. I have a Canon 200CP and 960 printers for that. Which are also Pictbridge capable by-the-way.
2. The Toner output on this printer seems to be twice that of the competition.
3. The sound. It is quieter then the Minolta.
4. The price, it was about $200.00 cheaper then the Oki model and a bit less then the Minolta.
I don't mean to rag on the Minolta printer. I almost bought it instead of the Samsung, but in the end, the toner output, printing options, and less noise made me choose the Samsung.
That's my 2 cents. I feel sorry for the Linux guy that gave this printer a 3. Fortunately for me I use Windows XP and 2000 and this printer works just fine and delivers what I paid for. I have a feeling I'm going to be enjoying this printer for many years. Now, if only I could find those darned optional Networking parts...Updated
I meant to say WATCH, not wath. My typo... -
"This Printer is a Toner Selling Scam" on by RandumOne
Pros: Auto-Duplexing kind of cool
Cons: Toner is completely chip dependant - quits prnting when it decides you need more toner
Summary: This printer is a pure scam to sell over-priced toner and I was sucked in. The actual level of toner has absolutely nothing to do with when it stops printing. Imagine my surprise when I printed a few thousand postcards that had ONE WORD in red and one word in blue and one yellow highlight that completely burned out ALL of my toner cartridges. They are still almost completely full yet the “smart chip” in them will not let them continue to print.
This printer is a scam – don't buy it. In the end it will cost you a fortune in toner or wind up in a closet after a couple of weeks as ours has. -
"Reliable and Quick" on by meelosh
Pros: Fast Printing, Good color.
Cons: Text is not as crisp and clear as I had hoped.
Summary: Text is just slightly blurry and not as precise as I had hoped. Other than that, setup, ease of use, color quality, and noise are all excellent. Having a built in duplexer is awesome. Great machine.

"A good choice for your average home user" on by krispyduck
Pros: Cost per print is one of the cheapest, duplex printing, relatively short warm up time, quiet
Cons: Slightly blury colour prints.
Summary: Usage: Home, printing ocassional colour diagrams/graphs, and business letters. I paid AUD$435.
I also looked at the HP colour Laser in the same price range. But after further research, found the cost per page was more expansive compared to samsung.
In terms of ease of use. I found the printer to be quite straight forward - no more difficult than your average printer. In general the other parts like drums etc is also cheaper.
Print quality: This would have to be its definately disadvantage. To give you an idea of how bad, well, The colour print out is slightly clearer than news paper; and the B&W print is similar to a paper back novel.
If you are looking to use this printer for normal office documents, then this printer perfect. But, if you are after a glossy graphic design type finish then you'll be better off with a ink jet printer.
Conclusion:
I think the duplex printing function is great, and the printer is reliable and produces professional office documents.
