"Do not buy this printer unless you actually see the printed samples and decide that their mediocre q" on by asulakve

Pros: Low priced; fast; includes built-in duplex unit

    Cons: Terrible print quality

Summary: This printer was rated “very good” by CNET editors in 2004. Indeed, the printer has a short worm-up period (rocket speed compared to my other color laser printer, Minolta Magicolor 2300DL), it is quit in the standby mode (which I can not say about the above-mentioned Minolta), and is reasonably nice-looking. Also, the printing speed is very fast, and the printer has duplex printing capability as a standard feature (an extra option on many other printers, often costing $250 or more). All this, combined with the low price (about $350), makes this printer potentially very attractive to home offices or small workgroups. However, the printer fails miserably in its main function – in printing quality. Many reviews commented on the mediocre printing quality of Samsung CLP-510, but I thought how bad could it be? So I went ahead and bought it - to discover first-hand that the printing quality is undeniably very poor. The text is grainy even in the BEST setting (1200 dpi), it seems out of focus, and is fuzzy (am I being redundant here?!). In short, it has one of the worst, if not the worst, printing qualities I have ever seen in any printer, laser or ink-jet. Sure, it is inexpensive and has duplex printing capability…. It does print in color, and it is better priced than many other laser printers, especially when you consider the standard duplexing unit on the Samsung... It has been rated “very good” by CNET…. If you are still considering buying this printer, I strongly suggest you look at the actual printouts first. Go to the store and print some test pages. The quality may be acceptable to what your specific needs are. If so, than this is a great buy. However, chances are that once you look at the printouts, you will start looking for another printer real fast.

I am baffled. Did the Samsung engineers actually work to make the print quality as bad as it is on this printer? I had high hopes for this thing, but print after print I was searching for what I thought must be a missing print quality command. Nope. The print quality is that bad. Both text and color is fuzzy, lacking any crispness whatsoever. This thing prints like a bad second generation ink jet. Don't be seduced by the initial cost, you will be disappointed by the lack of print quality and the very high cost of replacement toner, drum, transfer belt, etc.<br><br>I'm still scratching my head as to how this printer could have received such good reviews from writers?
