"Toner has chip based on page count"
Pros: No pro's in my opinion.
Cons: Read My opinion
Summary: I bought this because of the built in duplexer. Any paper I use with the duplexer makes the toner flake off. Also, the toner cartridge has a chip that counts the number of pages. Once the count is up you have to replace with expensive/new cartridges even though you have plenty of toner. Think you can refill your cartridges? Think again!

I've used the Samsung CLP-500 series in the office for 2 years now. The color is sharp and the black text printing is never a problem for us, despite some reviews I read as to poor quality. I haven't seen it, and I do all of our product data sheets with it.
The chip controlled toner cartridges can be frustrating. We occassionally do very heavy runs of thousands of sheets over a few weeks and it is frustrating to have a cartridge click into replacement mode when you can still feel it has quite a bit of toner in it; however, that does not mean you have to change the cartridge. Shake them and keep printing hundreds of pages as we do.
As to the paper, we experimented with several brands and found that the highest quality color printing also came at the best bang for the buck when we switched from the more expensive HP laser papers to the Office Depot 28 pound, 115 bright laser papers. Excellent print quality, and often on sale individually and by the case. Note that the 500-550 series recommend 24lb papers. The Office Depot 28 pound paper is no problem, gives a great weight for a data sheet, and the 115 brightness renders superior color. Do not try using glossy laser photo paper - it won't take it.
Four toner cartridgges can get expensive. Shop around. I buy my cartridges online at 4inkjets.com for $79.00 with free shipping and regular monthly 10% savings promotion codes. That can't be beat.
I have been wanting to buy a duplexing color laser printer at home and have researched a lot but can't really find anything under $500 to compare with the Samsung $510, which I can drive over to BJ's right now and pick up for $249; and, when they have it on sale, it's $199. You can find then as cheap as $99.00 on eBay for refurbs and sometimes new, but shipping is then typically $79 or more.
The duplexing built into the printer makes all the difference in the world. It's a great little workhorse! -
google "toner refill"
and get the chip resetter for 20 bucks

True enough, but you can still use the toner until the print quality degrades, then replace them. I HAVE a local refill vendor (Kansas City metro area) that stocks the necessary parts to REBUILD the cartridges... these parts and SAMSUNG replacement Toner are widely available for the 500 and 510 models from SAMSUNG.
PLEASE NOTE: the toner cartridges for the model 500 and 510 are DIFFERENT and will NOT interchange. Make sure you purchase parts for the correct model. -
This review is quite bias. THe CLP 510 that I bought two months ago has already delivered 2800 pages of excellent quality print material and no problems. I got four high high capacity extra's for just $285 CDN but they're still in the boxes. Hi gloss paper is no good but the rest provide great prints and the coloured ad material it produces is good enough for major newspapers. For under $400 CDN it's a heck of a good buy. Not one good thing to say about the CLP 510? Did you really try one out??
