"Good printer, though smelly; bad support" on by rcampbell12

    Pros: Fast, good quality

    Cons: Stinky, stinky

Summary: I got this printer at the great price of $190, after over $250 in rebates and instant savings. This printer was easy to set up and the quality seems great, however the first thing I noticed was that it was kind of stinky. I'm not sure what I'm smelling - the toner, some lubrication oils that will burn off, I don't know. But I've been using it some and it isn't going away. I have contacted Samsung tech support via their online form twice and they have not bothered to respond. The last attempt was a week ago. They don't even have the CLP-600N in their list of printers on that online form. It stops with the 500. It appears they are not serious about support. If you have to pay regular prices for a printer, get one from a company that offers better support. My cost may make the hassle I'm experiencing worth it, but I won't buy another Samsung printer unless they get their act together. At present, they just look like amateurs.

    Updated
Another thing about this printer is that the Samsung software that "monitors" the printer has made my system unstable. It was stable, but immediately after installing the drivers, I noticed that shutdowns often resulted in certain programs hanging. Also, I would lose my network connections. Disabling the monitoring software helped, but the problem is that it somehow restores itself to memory. This may happen when I print, so it's been a battle to keep it out. Samsung obviously has no interest in their customers having control over their own computers. Samsung just runs what it pleases with no way for the user to stop it. I tend to avoid monitoring programs, but Samsung makes it real hard for me to do that.

"Stay Away from this unreliable printer" on by corodoc

    Pros: Inexpensive printer built cheaply

Cons: High breakdown rate and unresponsive service

Summary: Purchased this printer for small business in Oct 2006 and have had to repair 4x. Engine Fuser overheats constantly and burns out with any job over 12 pages. Service level is equal to self service gas station - None! If you need a relaible printer this is not the one!

"So Far Very Good" on by sjsyes

Pros: Very fast with both black and white and color, Good quality with both, Easy setup and great so far

Cons: Only one is that it produces a low intermitent hum when in sleep mode

Summary: I've read the only other review on the CLP-600 and I feel sorry for the writer (and am a little concerned because of it). However, my experience has been the opposite of his.

I have been using this printer for one month and have done a lot of b&w and color printing. The graphics and text are very good with both. I haven't used the many options it has but I have no reason to believe, at this point, that it won't perform these just as well.

I had a Brother monochrome 1440 and it crapped out on me in two years. So, this time I purchased an extended warranty. I actually paid less for this color laser, including the extended warranty, than I did for the Brother mono.

I purchased it at Office Depot on sale for $299 ($200 mail in rebate). I checked out other color lasers and none even came close to the speed and price of this one (even at $499 it wouldn't be a bad deal). It does print as advertised - 18-20 ppm b&w and 15-20 ppm for color (not including the 20 or so seconds it takes to warm up after sending the Print command).

While I am a little leery after reading what another buyer wrote, I can only say that I think I got a great deal. Based upon one month's use, I would have to reccmmend this printer highly. Except for the ocassional low hum (why I gave it an 8 rather than 9 or 10), my experience so far has been great. If I do experience some of the problems stated I will repost.

"I've had issues from day 1." on by araeofshine

Pros: When it's working, it prints nice.

Cons: SMPS Fan error, poor support, very poor photo print quality. I've had issues with this printer from day one. Even though I've had it for over a year, it's really only worked about two months total.

Summary: First I was sent a bad print cartridge. Then, after that was remedied, within a month of using I began getting this "SMPS Fan Error." I've tried a patch, I've tried blowing the fan out, nothing works past one print job. I tried tech support. The agent's english translation was poor, they were not able to fix the problem and suggested a service call. There are no service centers in my area. This printer was not worth the $400 I spent on it. If you buy this product, you are taking a definite gamble.

    "RUN AWAY!!!" on by alwayztheskeptik

Pros: Works great for about 6 months. Nice image quality, at least initially.

Cons: Very expensive toner cartridges. Fan errors that shut down printing nearly every day.

Summary: I'll repeat what I said earlier: RUN AWAY! This printer has been nothing but a source of frustration and excessive expense.
