"Nice cheap network printer" on by MarketingSlime
Pros: Fast, Mac and PC Compatible, Very good quality print, built-in Ethernet
Cons: Loud while printing. Mac Postcript driver has few options.
Summary: I wanted a black and white laser printer to handle printing large PowerPoint presentations, product manuals and other multi-page documents. Mac and PC compatibilty was a must, as well as network attachment for use by multiple machines.
Setup and software installation for both Mac and PC environments was straight forward and trouble free. I just plugged it into an open port on my wireless router, and was good to go.
On my Wintel machines, the printer appears as a PCL compatible network printer. The driver has all the bells and whistles I expected.
On a Mac, the print driver is plain vanilla PostScript, with virtually no control of print options. Changing resolution or other paramters requires using the printers built-in web-based interface. Somewhat cumbersome, but I can live with it.
Warmup time from idle and print speed is outstanding for a printer in this class. At approximately 25 pages/minute the printer blasts through large documents in short order. I only use my Canon ink jet now when I really need a color printout.
The printer is rather loud...it sounds like a small jet when printing and the fan noise is substantial until it goes back to sleep in power save mode. If I printed stuff constantly throughout the day, it would probably be irritating, but given my print habits (4-5 large docs/day) it's usually idle, and is dead silent when so.
The factory toner isn't cheap but I was able to find it locally for $60 instead of the MSRP of $89. The "starter cartridge" that's included is only good for 1000 pages, but a full load of toner should last around 3000 or so. That's two cents/page which is pretty good in my book.
All in all, a good inexpensive OS/X & Windoze network printer for light to moderate use. I'm very happy with the 2571N. Your actual mileage may vary.Updated
Since a recent update of the Mac drivers, I'd raise my rating of the printer to a 9 now. It's been dead nuts reliable and the print quality is still as good as day one. Zero paper jams as well. -
"Overall, a disappointment to me" on by dwbower
Pros: Fast, easy to set-up, works well with plain paper
Cons: Does not handle card stock and envelopes well even with adjustments to paper options
Summary: My printing costs will decrease with plain paper printing. However, I plan on sticking with another printer for card stock and envelopes. The product may be over rated.

"How can they sell it this cheap?" on by snorklehead
Pros: All the features nearly anyone would need.
Cons: Only holds 250 sheets, doesn't include a beer cooler.
Summary: For $132 including shipping, I got a 1200 dpi printer with built-in Ethernet and PostScript emulation. I printed some actual vector PostScript art from it, EPS files, PS fonts, etc., and all came out great. It was simple to set up despite a lack of detailed instructions. It's extremely fast, and photos look better than from my previous printer (a Xerox Phaser). The thing even accepts legal-size paper. I can't find anything else that offers as much even for twice the money. And I've been in the publishing business since before laser printers were invented, so I know of which I speak. If it doesn't fall apart or otherwise screw up in the next few months (I just unpacked it today), I can recommend it without reservation.
By the way, I'm using it on a network of PPC Macs. It works fine in both OS X and Classic.

"Reliable, reasonably quiet, does what we want." on by 9cassidy9
Pros: At two years old, ours is 6-12 months older than previous deceased printers. Good B&W copies, fast, quiet, plays nicely on Mac network. Requires fairly rare reboot it when network can't find it, otherwise reliable--in our experience that's great.
Cons: Some features don't work with Macs--i.e., can't choose bypass tray from computer, must physically bypass slot, which holds very few. Once an obscure error message turned out to be low toner--no way to tell except tech's suggestion.
Summary: Overall, it's been a good, affordable laser printer for day-to-day B&W use. Fast & fairly quiet, it's lasted longer than previous mono lasers in this price range, and we're hoping that continues.
