Pros: Fast print speeds, great business graphics, solid colors with good details, pretty decent photo printing, and cheap consumables.
Cons: A little dithering on photo prints, but it's not a photo printer; large and heavy, don't run it through a laser printer, too much heat will melt the ink.
Summary: I took a leap of faith on this printer: I'm very happy with it. It prints business graphics with detail and accurate color VERY quickly; faster than I've seen any printer. The printer literally spits them out!! It's printouts are leaps more vibrant than most color laser printers, but slightly less detailed than really expensive inkjet printers. It's printouts come out faster and more durable than inkjets though. Great for Graphic Designers to show detailed comps for everything from business cards to letterheads and brochures to greeting cards. It prints on almost ANYTHING. I've ran some test printouts through 135-degree water, not a blush... although the paper didn't last to long. I ran a test sheet through a color laser printer, NOT a good a idea. The heat from the laserprinter's fuser (I guess) melted the solid-ink already on the page and made it bleed further into the fibers, looking like an old inkjet print on regular paper. I leaves a unique, shiny, semi-raised/embossed printout, which I think is pretty cool looking. So far, replacement cubes of ink are cheap, when buying them through a 3rd party, and the replaceable maintenance-kit will not be needed until I hit the 10000 page count. Like most printers in this price, it is not a full-bleed machine, so one has to design accordingly. Moving it from a location is no easy task and requires some time for the machine to properly cool down. The built-in help files (viewable through the LCD screen) are very helpful. Printing envelopes has been a little tricky, but I suspect I haven't read the manual yet. All-in-all, a great printer for graphic designers and small offices looking for a super-fast, waterproof printout with a lot of color and detail. I would suggest this machine for those looking to print brochures in limited numbers.

Pros: Great resolution & color,. Very versatile
Cons: A bit pricey and heavy.
Summary: This printer is everything it's advertised to be. I was quite impressed with the simple setup. Turning it one for the first time caused it to print out it's configuration and a menu map.
It is quite intelligent as far as power on/power save options. There are settings for every day of the week. It is also very smart about recognizing the paper sizes being loaded manually.
The solid ink blocks are simple and clean to to load.
The best part is that every printed page yields professional quality print and color. -

Pros: Ease of use
Cons: Even if you use competitvely priced solid ink, this printer is too costly to use versus the printer it replaced with conventional toner.
Summary: Streaky printing versus the printer it replaced. Supplies are uber costly. The solid ink was hyped as being less costly. Do not for one minute believe it. Our cost per label has sky-rocketed with the use of this printer. Purchasing it was a huge mistake, even with the rebate offered at the time.

Pros: Fast printer. Less wasteful. Ink has professional, high-gloss look.
Cons: Very wasteful printer. Supplies are expensive. Cleaning mode wastes vast amount of ink. Noisy. Emits constant odor when operational. Color is not accurate at all times. Low melting point of ink prevents lamination of paper.
Summary: The Xerox Phaser 8500/8560 is a nice small-office printer when you need your printouts to look professional, but don't require photo-quality printouts. The printer, while initially a decent price, is incredibly expensive to run and maintain. Xerox claims that this printer prints "in color for the cost of black-and-white", but don't be fooled. The only Xerox Phaser printer that accomplishes that task is the 8860, which costs $2,000 more and doesn't improve on any of the features (at all, literally) except for the cost per page.
Cost per page is also deceiving with this printer. If your office should ever lose power, or you have to turn the printer off to move it, each time the printer turns back on, it dumps all of the melted ink in the holding tanks into a community waste tray. Wikipedia.com states that each time this event occurs, the printer wastes $18 worth of ink. So the cost per page is accurate on Xerox's website, but only if you never EVER turn the printer off for as long as you own it.
This printer is also very noisy. During initial startup, or even during a warmup in the morning, the printer makes a very great deal of noises that can be quite distracting the first few times you hear it (you might even wonder if the printer is broken, but it isn't). Even during printing, this printer is much louder and noisier than a typical Laser printer or Inkjet printer, so I would recommend placing this printer off in the corner or somewhere that isn't close to other coworkers.
Due to the low melting point of the wax-based ink, laminating pages or running them through a laser printer afterwords isn't an option. Lamination re-melts the ink causing the page to discolor as does a laser printer.
One odd quirk about this printer is that fine-point pens will tear the wax off the page, and ball-point pens don't work when you try to write on a printed portion of the page. However, because of the unique wax-based properties, the ink will never smear and the ink will never run when it gets wet.
I work for a entertainment-media school and color reproduction is top priority. In my experience, this printer fails to reproduce colors correctly. I've never had the printer serviced for this problem and it could just be an isolated incident.
Envelopes, while able to travel through the printer, usually hit the output tray with some creasing and defects. It only seems to happen to the lip of an envelope, but it does damage it nonetheless.
In the 2.5 years I've owned this printer, it has never jammed once, but the manual feed tray sometimes requires pressure to be placed on the paper in that tray for the feeder to catch it.
On occasion, some of the jets inside the printer will become clogged with ink. This can cause streaks to appear on your printed materials. Luckily, this printer is outfitted with many automated tools to repair these problems.
Duplexing is not an available upgrade, so if you need duplex capabilities, make sure you purchase the DN or DLX model.
600x600DPI isn't terrible, but it certainly leaves something to be desired, especially if you go for the more expensive 8860 (At $2500, you'd expect a higher DPI).
It should be noted that this printer emits a mild odor anytime it is running (even while not printing).
If you're looking for a printer with a low cost per page, look somewhere else or look at the 8860.
