"Grate picture and a good price"

4.5 stars  | on by Rainfrog

Pros

1. Full 1080p HD resolution for movies and games (can you say Blu-Ray?)
2. Attractive stylish design. People see it and ask "Where can I get one?"
3. Good variety of connection ports: HDMI, DVI, and a VGA.
4. The base has a good degree of upward tilt

Cons

1. The base has a poor degree of downward tilt making necessary to be placed at or below eye level

2. There is a chance to get one that "flickers" this seems to happen more often if ASCR is turrned on but can be an issue when ASCR is off as well

Summary

Over all a great buy. Beautiful display that does inspire envy. The flicker issue has something to do with the contrast and seems to be very rare particularly rare for it to flicker with ASCR (a dynamic contrast setting) turned off. Great quality to price ratio. Over all a great buy. Beautiful display that does inspire envy. The flicker issue has something to do with the contrast and seems to be very rare particularly rare for it to flicker with ASCR (a dynamic contrast setting) turned off. Great quality to price ratio. The integrated HDMI is a nice touch. I have seen multiple input types becoming more frequent in high end monitors and was pleased to find it in this under $300 model when most lower cost monitors have a DVI or two and maybe a VGA. Gaming on this monitor is just incredible. High resolution and a 2ms response time make blurring a thing of the past. The picture is so clear its like getting a marksmanship upgrade in first person shooters like Call of Duty 4. I take half a star for the possibility of getting one that flickers but I would recommend this monitor to any one looking for a great monitor at a bargain of a price.

"Outstanding Large Format Monitor"

5 stars  | on by tharrington

Pros

Even lighting and color reproduction
Fast response time for gaming

Cons

Default settings were WAY too bright out of the box, on all 5 presets. You have to tune/calibrate this monitor manually.
OSD is not intuitive.

Summary

This monitor has a better all around picture than my 32" LCD TV that was four times as expensive. The OSD (On Screen Display is not that intuitive, that's why I recommend downloading the manual from Asus. It does a much better job of explaining the controls. Download the ... Read full review

This monitor has a better all around picture than my 32" LCD TV that was four times as expensive. The OSD (On Screen Display is not that intuitive, that's why I recommend downloading the manual from Asus. It does a much better job of explaining the controls. Download the PDF version from the Asus web site here: http://usa.asus.com/product.aspx?_ID=zMRyN4KB5o5rSqKr&content=download

Looking at this monitor when you turn it on for the first time is like looking into an arc welder, and when you look away you'll see spot in your eyes like a flash bulb went off. The Asus Forum has a thread for optimal settings, that if used, produce an outstanding picture.
