"Outstanding Large Format Monitor"
5.0 starson by tharringtonPros: Even lighting and color reproduction
Fast response time for gamingCons: Default settings were WAY too bright out of the box, on all 5 presets. You have to tune/calibrate this monitor manually.
OSD is not intuitive.Summary: This monitor has a better all around picture than my 32" LCD TV that was four times as expensive. The OSD (On Screen Display is not that intuitive, that's why I recommend downloading the manual from Asus. It does a much better job of explaining the controls. Download the PDF version from the Asus web site here: http://usa.asus.com/product.aspx?_ID=zMRyN4KB5o5rSqKr&content=download
Looking at this monitor when you turn it on for the first time is like looking into an arc welder, and when you look away you'll see spot in your eyes like a flash bulb went off. The Asus Forum has a thread for optimal settings, that if used, produce an outstanding picture. That thread can be found here: http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?board_id=13&model=VW246H&id=20090910003930171&page=1&SLanguage=en-us

Thanks so much for the link to the calibration settings you posted, it was a great help. I just bought this monitor when my Dell 24" gave up the ghost after 6 years of faithful service and I have to say that for the price it's not a bad deal at all. I agree completely about the default settings being WAY to bright out of the box but to me it also has a very pronounced bluish tint to it that I just am not used to. Adjusting the settings manually has helped this considerably but it's still there to a small degree.
Anyway, again, thanks for posting the link to the forum thread, it was a big help.
