"P-MVA Monitors"5.0 starson by Infrared9
Pros: 1. 3000:1 contrast ratio (as opposed to 1000:1 max for ips and tn) = Contrast Ratio is amazing, significantly better than TN and E-IPS
2. 8 bit color = Color vibrancy rivals plasma screens && more expensive monitors. (Noticeably better than TN's a
Cons: 1. Slight Cyan & Magenta Ghosting. 8ms response time.
2. Color Presets are completely worthless
3. Benq build quality/ Quality Control
Summary: I needed a new monitor for my house. I play games, music production, post production and software development at home.
At work, I work on dual Dell U2410's.
I started with a Samsung PX2370. Crazy backlight bleed, bland colors, uneven color gradiants and color consistency due to the backlight coupled with a really crappy stand made me return this.
Picked up BenQ Ew2420 and the LG IPS236. The LG IPS236 was way better than the Samsung PX2370. The LG IPS236 is a great monitor, in fact I would recommend it if you want a slight more bit of reliability and some more response time. (more on that later)
In the end I chose to stay with the BenQ EW2420. The contrast ratio and vibrant colors were unforgettable. Although the E-IPS (LG IPS236) put up a good fight, I found that I was always trying to get it to look a as good as the BenQ. The only monitor I actually like better is the Dell U2410, which is double the price.
And for all those posts where I read that gamers desperately need 2ms response times: People were playing and kicking ass at games with 25ms+ 1st gen lcd monitors for years 2001-2005+, fast response times on a monitor have nothing to do with how you play. Stop whining.
Tips for BenQ EW2420 buyers:
Make sure you dont use the presets, program your own settings. Also make sure AMA is turned on.
Games that look great on EW2420
1. Starcraft II
2. Mass Effect 2
3. Dragon Age 2
4. Dawn of War II Retribution
