"Cnet coulnd't be more wrong about this display" on
Pros: If you're a gamer and your looking for the best bang for your buck, then this display is for you. 12ms refresh rate!! Worlds of Warcraft and HL2, both of which support the wide screen rez, look amazing. No ghosting with either of these games. Text is shar
Cons: No printed user guide, not a big deal. The color print out that comes with it is just fine. Box is plain, but seriously, who shows off their monitor box? Besides, I don't want to advertise what's being shipped to my home anyway. Minor back light bleeding

"This monitor while sexy and sleek has one underlying flaw that makes it hard to love" on by valyn
Pros: The wide screen, amazing specs and clean design make a great package..currently can be had for less then $450!!!
Cons: Backlight, Backlight, Backlight. GO no further then dell.com forums and search 2005fpw to read the horrors
Summary: This is a monitor I have been trying desperately to love, look at the specs, amazing resolutions, pivot display, clean design, super fast refresh of 16ms, it seeminly has it all. What this monitor is missing is quality control from the manufacturing divison of Dell. I am on my second replacement now on dell's dime, and they seem to only get worse with each delivery. I myself play alot of games with dark environments, i,e, Doom 3 etc. and the backlight bleed is an utter showstopper, the screen seems to flare out whenever I enter a dark area and is very distracting. I also do alot of cad and graphics work, and the backlight is a distraction then as well if I am working on dark images etc.
If you don't play games or do any graphics work where you use a black background then this monitor is probably a steal for you. The price is dropping every day, and can now be had for just a bit more then a regular aspect 19" monitor with a much lower native resolution screen and slower response time.
Other monitors with similar specs and size are selling for more then twice this baby's pricetag. When surfing the web, or playing games that are not in dark environments the monitor is simply stunning. the image is ultra sharp and responsive, and color rendition is top notch. the specs for this monitor match the highly acclaimed Cinemaview monitor from Apple, but the similarity seems to stop in the specs, Dell clearly has some manuf errors to fix before this is an award winning monitor, and note my monitors are labeled with manuf stamps from May and June 2005, so don't believe they have fixed the backlight issue, they clearly have not!!! -
"Excellent Monitor if you know what to expect" on by dr.quiet
Pros: Small Footprint, Excellent Contrast
Cons: Native resolution is 1680 X 1050
Summary: It's important to realize that this monitor is 20.1 inches DIAGONALLY. It is smaller vertically than 19" LCD screens. I've used this for office applications (in which case you'll LOVE the the portrait mode) as well as gaming. With regards to gaming: I STRONGLY recommend that your system incorporates an Nvidia 6800GT or higher(or ATI's X800 series). Playing games in the native resolution on Half-Life2, Guild Wars, and Warcraft looks fantastic. I felt that the response time was just barely noticeable. That being said, after a few days of using it for gaming, it becomes invisible until you play on a CRT. I recommend this monitor for the space it saves and the excellent quality. Dell and Apple use the same LG manufacturer for both their screens. Dell's is brighter and does have some backlighting, but I tested 2 movies on it and did not notice any problems. However, the all-black screen that is displayed during boot-up shows some white light coming through in each of the corners. When it's not all black... it's great. Again, if you're looking at apple, get this Dell because it can be had for MUCH cheaper (i got mine for 400 with rebates). Don't pay full price for this, wait for rebates on either slickdeals.net or fatwallet.com

"Oringal Defective, Replacement Defective" on by bobmckee
Pros: The price, the price, the price
Cons: inability to get a properly functioning one, customer service, tech support, dell policy
Summary: If you get this thing and it works good bless ya. I paid *$426* for it. Caught it on sale, had a coupon code - awesome. Then I got a defective one. Dell kept telling me it was my system that was the problem and it took tons of testing over a few weeks to convince them otherwise. They sent me a replacement. It was defective too. I hooked this thing to different computers and even a bunch of DVD players. Rows of dull horizontal lines that could only really be seen on low saturation colors showed on the left 3" of the screen top to bottom.
I emailed the Dell technician that I had been working with and got no response. At this point I was upset with Dell's product and service so I tried to return both, but was promptly denied because it had been more that 21 days since my oringal purchase even though the second monitor had only been in my possession for 2 DAYS! Dell's customer service tried to essentially trap me in a relationship with their company. I battled with them, invested hours on the phone and sent out many emails, and eventually I got a call for corporate and got my way.
With Dell its hit or miss - feeling lucky? -
"Would be a '10' if not for backlight issues!" on by jameszimo
Pros: Price, Sceen size, Bright Picture, Adjustability
Cons: Backlight Issues
Summary: I bought this monitor for watching DVDs in widescreen format and for working with applications side by side. The monitor is very good with the exception of a few bright backlight leaks around the edges. They are difficult to see unless you are playing a video game with dark animation, watching a dark scene on a DVD movie or when the screensaver is activated. At this point, the backlight leaks become very noticable.
The main reason I picked the 2005FPW monitor over other widescreen monitors is mostly because I use a Dell UltraSharp 2001FP at work and there are no backlight issues (that I can tell) with that monitor. I figured I would get the same quality with the widescreen.
I'm still debating weather or not I should send it back and get another one. Trouble is, it sounds like I could get one that is worse.
