"Good but not great."
Pros: Glossy screen; cheap for 22" monitors; VGA, DVI and HDMI connectors; VGA and DVI cables included in package
Cons: No 1920x1200; integrated webcam
Summary: This Dell monitor is a not a great one. It is cheap and has the "essential" connectors, VGA and DVI, with respective cables, together with an HDMI connector. The problems are severly damaging however. Dell offers a 1920x1200 on its 17" (Vostro 1700) and even 15.4" (XPS M1530) notebooks, and yet for some reason it offers only 1680x1050 on a 22" monitor...that is ridiculous. And I have no need for an integrated webcam...Dell could have at least offered an option to opt-out. So this product is good but not remarkable or great, and I would not recommend it.

First off, anyone who knows absolutely anything about hardware would know it's kind of silly to compare laptop screens to desktop screens. Laptop screens have to be small, which is why you sometimes see small screens with high resolution. Big screens just aren't available. Of course such notebooks carry a heavy pricetag, and we're talking about a desktop monitor that's only $300, which is still in the low to mid pricerange for monitors of this size. So you've done something even more silly than comparing apples and oranges. You decided to compare relatively cheap apples to very, very expensive oranges.
You say it's "ridiculous" for Dell to give this monitor a 1680x1050 resolution. I hate to break it to you but virtually ALL 22' monitors in ALL price ranges come at that resolution. In fact, out of all the monitors of this size on the ENTIRE MARKET, I'm only aware of one that can run at 1920x1200, the Lenovo ThinkVision L220X which is $200 more than this Dell monitor.
Dell is providing a cheap monitor with stellar image quality (and yes, there is more to image quality than resolution) and above average options for connection. They've even thrown a webcam into the deal, which for $300 is quite impressive, regardless of whether or not you'll use it. They've got a a spectacular product here, and the reason you knock of 4 out of 10 points is because for a mere $300 it dares to run at the same, standard resolution as every other 22' on the market save for one? Yes, We'd all LIKE it to run at 1920x1200, but criticizing it because it doesn't is like criticizing it because it doesn't make you coffee every morning
Putting the webcam under cons is even more ridiculous. It'd be one thing if Dell used the webcam as an excuse to charge an exorbitant price for the monitor, but at this pricepoint you might as well consider the webcam a free bonus. You don't have to put it in pros, but it certainly doesn't belong in cons. Afterall, it doesn't make the monitor any less functional.
I for one know how frustrating it can be to be criticized for a review just because it's negative, and wouldn't see anything wrong here if there had been some reasoning behind giving this monitor a 6/10. As it is however, there isn't. So I'll join more or less everyone else commenting here to say this review is ridiculous. -
Don't take Giulio's comments seriously. Most if not all 22" widescreen desktop monitors are 1680 x 1050 resolution, not 1920x1200, which is common in 24" widescreen desktop monitors. Reading Giulio's comments it is clear he has never even seen one of these monitors, and also doesn't know a whole lot about monitors in general. For example, he is comparing laptop screens to desktop screens. His entire review is inane and not helpful to anyone considering a 22" monitor purchase.

1680 x 1050 is the proper resolution for a 22 inch monitor and the price is hard to beat for a visually pleasant and quality monitor. Dell did a good job with this one and deserves kudos instead of inappropriate criticism.

this whole thing about 22" monitors not having higher resolution is ridiculous. If you want 1920x1200 get a 24". I would guess the reason you want this to have higher than 1680x1050 is you can't afford a 24" but want higher resolution. The thing is, for many people, 20" monitors display text too small, and many applications don't work with enlarged system font sizes, so the 22" is kinda like a large-print edition for people with normal or worse eyesight. Or, if you have good eyes then you can sit further away and have a better viewing angle. Same thing goes for 17" and 19" monitors (normal or widescreen). They have the same resolution, so the larger one is just easier to read. If you have really good eyes, then save money and buy the smaller option and get the same resolution, but don't bash a monitor just because you want more pixels for less money.
