"Not for Gamers Period."2.5 starson by Imparfait
Pros: Beautiful vibrant display, bright, with excellent colours and sharpness. USB 2.0 Hub and a Smart allround design
Cons: Extremely poor gaming performance, unbelievable amounst of motion blur. Almost too bright.
Summary: When I first purchased this monitor I did it under the guise that it was perhaps the best 19' LCD monitor availabe. Anandtech, for instance, rated it best beyond anything else they had encountered.
While it is true that the colours of this monitor are perhaps unsurpassed by others in its range, when it came down to its gaming performance, ie its response time, I found it extremely lacking.
If you read Anandtech's review they mention that the response time is 20ms, perhaps a small downside to it being an 8 bit panel. They also mention little to no motion blur during games, to a point where it is hardly noticeable.
This could be no further from the truth. When I first turned it on and loaded up FEAR sp demo, the first thing I noticed was blur. In the beginning I thought it was simply because I wasn't running at native resolution and that It was a pretty new and taxing game, but as I shifted through my immediate collection (Swat 4, Splinter Cell 3, BF2, WoW and even Dungeon Siege 2)It became even more apparent.
This LCD CANNOT cope with indoor environments, as soon as you have black on black, or shades of grey it starts motion bluring as if you were in the matrix itself. It became so distracting that I finally realised I have to return it. The key deciding factor in that is simply because my old Philips 150 S3 15'LCD monitor has better response time and less motion blur than my new 1905FP does in the same situations.
If a 3+ year old monitor is outperforming a brand new one something is wrong.
Ultimatly, if you plan on just wordprocessing, doing office stuff and watching movies it is a great monitor and highly recommended.
If you like gaming at all, you will be sorely dissapointed. From hardcore to mediocre gamer, this monitor should not be your choice.
Because I did like the image quality so much, and simply wanted better response time, I am upgrading my 1905FP to the 2405FPW. Hopefully it will perform better in games...
Sorry Dell, this LCD is just not a winner.
