Pros: Price, inputs, looks great

    Cons: Defective design

Summary: Dell is still sending out these monitors with an awful high-pitched squeal. If you have a high hearing range like I do it's migraine-inducing. You may have to go through a few returns to get one with no squeal and no dead pixels. Mine was perfect outside of the squeal. See this Dell forum message for details:

This is no doubt a dell hater or compeditor trying to effect the overall rating, this rating of 1 means nothing and can be completly discounted.

Ben

Your rating has no credibility. I'm going to buy this monitor right now.

It is unfair and downright silly for a person to leave a "1" rating when he likes and is pleased with the product. Especially if the mnfctr Dell solved the problem with the product. Such reviews are no help; can't figure.

    Howdy !

I want to thank all of these people who submitted comments on this Beautiful monitor.

When I saw the CNET review of it, I wanted one immediately. But then I saw this rating of "1". So I started reading. And reading. All 25 pages of comments.

I was very concerned that the "moderator" disappeared early on. So when I called Dell to order one, I insisted on getting an answer, first ! The customer sales rep, Jacob Lawther said he would ask their tech people for an answer - but it took 2 more days of me holding out on making a purchase for an answer before he finally told me that "there was no problem" with this NOISE issue.

Believe me, I have very sensitive hearing, and have been bothered for the last 30 years by the "white noise" of the 60 cycle HUM, or buzz, produced by televisions, and now computers. I am sitting here next to my brand new Gateway GT5012 Media Center XP that I bought to fully utilize this beautiful montor - and listening to the VERY high frequency noise that it produces. But NONE from my monitor ! And it is very cool, temp-wise.

The result ? PERFECTION ! Not a single bad pixel, no inconsistencies across the entire Landscape. It is HUGE ! I wanted to get a 42" Plasma - but everybody told me about "burn in". Bummer. OLED here I come ! And even though it doesn't have the best range of viewing angles ( about 30 degrees each side ) - the fact that it turns 90 degrees, and tilts 45 degrees, and raises 7 inches pretty much takes care of that ! I watch TV on it from 15 feet away. HD and DVD's are great !

Mine has an August 2005 88E mfr. date, Rev A01. And I got the $ 899 price through the Small Business group on 9/28/05.

Thanks for all of the input, and to CNET.

Very instructive knowing about this problem. I was considering purchase of the 2405FPW but am now a bit leary. DELL should solve the problem so that it doesn't impede potential sales.

I mean yeah it is pretty annoying, but you give it Abysmal i.e. 1 out of 10 just for that squealing? I mean come-on!! It is annoying to me as well, but its not as big a deal as you are making it.. In a very quiet room it is noticable (that too if you are just surfing the net or reading something on the screen.. I mean my basic need is either to watch movies or listen to music or to play games (computer and console) and honestly it surpasses even the Apple Cinema Display 23". It has the same screen clarity and is an inch bigger with some amazing features.. All it lacks is, it isnt HD Ready.. Which isnt a big deal, you get decent receivers for a bargain these days... I would understand if you'd given it 3 or 4 out of 10 just for the squealing, but 1 ?? It just goes to show people cant trust your opinion!..
