"How did this monitor get Editor's Choice???"
Pros: Wide viewing angles, build quality, included features
Cons: Wide Color Gamut unable to correctly display sRGB images, bad input lag
Summary: I just purchased 2 of these 2408WFP's to use as dual monitors. I thought I did all my homework prior to making the purchase but evidently not. The model currently shipping is a first version and has major issues. Just check the Dell Support Forums...customers with this monitor are eagerly awaiting a new hardware revision!!!
First, the wide color gamut is basically incompatible with Internet Explorer! (and any other non-color managed applications!) Most images on the web and in most other applications use the standard sRGB color profile. This monitor does a poor job in displaying these images. Users are having to use special color-managed web browsers for this monitor!
Second, this monitor has been found to have the worst input lag of just about any LCD! Gamers be warned...this monitor is NOT for you! The input lag is so bad it's even noticeable in scrolling on web pages!
Dell is promising an updated revision that should fix the input lag and other issues. Not sure how they will address the color gamut issue if even at all. What this monitor needs is a sRGB color profile mode for everyday use!!!Updated
Just to add a few more comments to my original review...
Additional Pros: True Blacks (Wow!), PVA-type panel
The input lag is totally different from the "Response Time" spec. If you put the 2 together you get the overall time it takes the screen to be refreshed. You have to add the input lag to the 6ms Response Time spec and in the case of this monitor you'll get way worse than anything near 6ms!

HEY SpeedRacer01S4,
Does the Dell UltraSharp 2007FP suffer from the same wide gamut that you're talking about. My roommate had the 2408WFP hooked up to his xbox360 and I HATED the colors. There was something very WRONG with that monitor.. color wise. Please e-mail back if you can...

@swgolfer88 - That sounds like something. The only thing that would make the new UltraSharp worth the money is if Dell actually incorporated LED backlighting into their next installment, ya know, make the Dell UltraSharp the PC monitor version of the Sony XBR8 or Samsung A950 are to HDTVs, so to speak. Can't wait to see what it'll be like.

BironBob, I've been looking for a new monitor too, and I decided to just go with this one because it will have almost a year under it's belt meaning it's got up to date driver and software support which is nice. I wanted to wait for the new Ultrasharp, but it was probably going to be a few hundred dollars more for something with similar image quality/features. Then again, I might just exchange this one in for the new one if it comes out soon and is a ton better ;)

I was looking forward to picking up this monitor, but I'm curious if Dell has a 2009 model to replace this. If so, when should I expect Dell to come out with any new UltraSharps, and what are any new features that I should look out for in this upcoming year that'll make that better than this?

I have not noticed any of these issues with this monitor. I cant think of any reason as to why youre getting any lag issues. This monitor has one of the highest refresh rates at the moment. Possibly you have an older graphics card and havent set the refresh rate correctly.
Ive also ran my xbox 360 and wii through it with zero problems. I feel bad for who ever needs the assistance of dells help line. Its an amazingly frustrating experience. -
i have tried playing xbox 360 on this monitor and the lag is unbearable. I bought the monitor in late june. Is it possible i have a defective unit?

I suggest that NeilFiertel is incorrect. I have a 512MB 8800GT and this monitor has horrible input lag, pink screen tint issues outside of PVA issues. Further I suggest you gain an understanding of a wide gamut monitor and its representation in a non-color managed environment before you spout off. It is not a no-brainer unless you are a no-brainer. There will by definition be severely over saturated colors as a result of displaying sRGB in the monitor's color space. I suggest the commenter has a lack of understanding issue and the original poster is correct.
Further, just the smallest effort to research this monitor before you started your little ill-informed diatribe would have alerted you to the severe issues this monitor in Rev A00 has had, and the issues are not uniformly resolved in Rev A01. Further, A Dell representative in the Dell Community Forum stated that this horrible monitor was "within Spec". -
You need to have at least a 512 MB video card to be able to run this monitor appropriately...

I suggest that the graphics card needs to be of a fast spec to rewrite on a screen of this size or larger and that likely the screen is not the culprit. The reference to the screen being unable to show correctly the web colours as per Explorer is incorrect. With a screen capable of more than web ready colours it is a no brainer to show correctly a narrower gamut than Adobe 98. I respectfully suggest the writer has a computer hardware issue and not a monitor issue.
