"Beware if you don't have a DVI or DisplayPort port."2.0 starson by amdel25
Pros: I's big. No question about that.
Cons: - It only supports the advertised resolution with a DVI or DisplayPort connection.
- Make sure you have one of these ports on your computer.
-The color and quality is mediocre. For the price, I expected more.
-It is overpriced for what you get.
Summary: It is advertised as having 2560 x 1600 resolution. The problem is that the monitor only supports that resolution using a DVI or a DisplayPort connection. Most laptops I've seen, including the 3 in my household, have HDMI and VGA, but not DVI or a DisplayPort. For VGA, this monitor supports 2048 x 1280, OK, it's analog, but it only supports 1920 x 1200 for HDMI. It's too late for me, but look for it yourself on their website. Look for Setting Up Your Monitor - Dell U3011. Make sure you have the right ports before buying.
Based on other reviews, I expected jaw dropping color and clarity. To me, it's mediocre. It's big, but just mediocre. See it in person to judge the color and clarity for yourself. Otherwise, make sure yo buy from a place without restocking or shipping fees for returns.
It is very expensive for what you get. I was willing to pay top dollar for top performance. I'm not willing to pay top dollar for mediocre performance, nor for spec limitations that are not divulged in the marketing.
I've owned many Dell products, including a new work laptop (which, by the way, has neither DVI nor DisplayPort connections), and generally I like Dell equipment. Dell really let me down this time!
