"Excellent monitor, everything worked perfectly." on by LincNeb
Pros: Low price $80.00, Good colors, no problem setting up, it was my main monitor for a couple of years. No bad pixels, distortion, or uneven lighting just a very good picture
Cons: Very poor placement of connectors. It doesn't have any HDMI connectors, but at the time I didn't have anything with HDMI, anway.
Summary: Right now, I have this 19" paperweight, which looks like s monitor. It's somebody's fault that my Envision monitor turned into this. It could have been the Linux Mint 8 OS. It could be my Compaq computer (CQ5230F) with the NVIDIA video chipset, and NVIDIA not providing enough information to Linux developers to develop drivers. Perhaps, the monitor just on its own gave out. Well, of course there's a remote possibility it was my fault in not paying a little closer attention on the display settings in Linux and just reducing the scan rates. For years I dual-booted between Linux and Window XP on another computer that had a Radeon video card and I never had to give that a thought.
Windows 7 apparently really liked this monitor even downloading a driver for it. For a while I used a Samsung CRT, as a replacement for the Envision on the Compaq computer and could switch between Linux and Windows 7 with no problems.
I decided to put up this review, mainly as a warning not to use this monitor with a Linux on a modern computer having inboard NVIDIA video. At least do some research and planning before you do, do this. I haven't found much use for dead monitors. -
"Too underrated." on by X5-655
Pros: Bright, has good color
Cons: Does come with some bad pixels.
Summary: The reviews on this monitor should be better, because the monitor can do well for the average consumer.
I use it and love it alot. It only has one dead red sub-pixel, and that's it, otherwise the monitor is quite great, and is bright.
It's what I'd expect from a monitor that costs this little. -
"Envison some quality control" on by stealthguitar
Pros: Bought at local store for only 130 bucks, nice picture
Cons: Stuck BLUE pixle right in the middle of screen, lots of white around edges.
Summary: Bought this baby (G918W1) from the store, you can figure out which one I think, for $130 on sale and figured it had better contrast and response time than some of the other ones so I figured I 'd give it a shot. I had read other reviews about others taking them back multiple times because of dead/stuck pixels right out of the box but I thought I would be more lucky than that. NOT! Granted it's only one pixel but it was right in the middle of the screen, and it was a bright blue. Once you notice it, it's all your eyes can focus on. Granted 130 bucks isn't much relative to other flat panel lcds, and I know this type of thing happens to them but it's 130 bucks for something that is shaddy quality right out of the box...come on...
Another note...if you buy this guy, don't attach it to it's base right away as it is a beast to remove if you need to return it/exchange it. -
"Exchanged 4 (!) times b/c of dead pixels." on by scisssors
Pros: Value, color
Cons: Dead pixels
Summary: I have purchased a pair of G918w1 from Best Buy. Each one had at least one dead pixel. After going through 4 of them decided to return and spend more on a higher quality one. In all cases dead pixels were in the right bottom part, sometimes in the corner sometimes closer to the middle.
