"Great monitor, very bright, rotates, HDMI input can be used as HDTV" on by lhobbs

Pros: Great monitor, very bright, rotates, HDMI input can be used as HDTV

Cons: None that I am aware of

    Summary: This monitor is beautiful.

I have a 30-inch Dell monitor which is extremely nice, but the display on the Gateway is even nicer.

    It's brighter, clearer.

I also have an HP 2335 23-inch LCD which I thought was as good as they get, but the Gateway FHD2400 24-inch LCD puts it to shame.

The Gateway monitor makes my HP monitor look old, dull and worn out.

I turned up the brightness on my 30-inch Dell and my 23-inch HP monitors to try and get closer to the brightness of the Gateway.

The Gateway monitor has lots of inputs including an HDMI input.

Not that I have done it, but this means that I could hook my AppleTV up to it and us it as an High Definition TV if somebody was watching something else on my big plasma TV and I wanted to watch something on my Apple TV.

The response time on the Gateway is 3 ms. It does not matter to me, but I would think that faster is better.

The monitor also rotates 180 degrees.

The monitor is very easy to adjust up-and-down, or to change the angle.

The monitor stand also sits on a pivot point which makes it very easy to swivel left or right.

I looked for reviews on the Gateway monitor, but had a hard time finding them.

I almost bought a used Dell 24-inch LCD for $500, but I'm glad I did not.

I got this monitor from J&R Music for $530 with free shipping.

    I can't imagine a nicer 24-inch monitor.

    I highly recommend this monitor.

    "It's awesome!" on by peprdo

    Pros: indescribable colors and clearity

Cons: a little pricey, but worth it

Summary: I just picked this up at best buy. It's utterly amazing. The colors and resolution are just incredible, blew my Dell Ultrasharp away. I got it mainly for gaming, and it made Crysis and Call of Duty 4 look and feel like I was actually there. Completely immersive thanks to this incredible monitor. I don't like Gateway much, but I had to have this monitor after seeing it in the store. It's ultrafast and just awesome for gaming and everything else I need. Get one, you won't be dissapointed!

"Superficially sleek, but technical failures." on by H-Tech

Pros: Sleek design and has many signal inputs combination.
Theoritically could be a winning monitor if it functions as intended.

Cons: In practice, it is a poor performer. CNet Editor's review was on the mark. Backlight bleeds from all sides. Screen displays pink pixels in grey area. Touch buttons stop functioning. All sorts of problems after 10 hours of usage. It must be unpluged

Summary: Superficially sleek, but technical failures in reality.
Gateway service is abysmal. I have had to send in the monitor several times, with each itteration costing almost 1 month of no display time. They refused to acknowledge defects on the monitor or to replace it.

"Exceeded my expections on what a PC monitor should do!" on by RedFoxEXR4

Pros: - Multiple Inputs (DVI, HDMI, Component, VGA, and Composite)
    - Touch Senstive Menu
    - Dynamic PIP (Something I used often surprisingly.)
    - Very Bright and Vivid Screen
    - Lots of Profile Settings in OSD Menu
    - Fully Customizable in OSD Menu

Cons: - Generates a lot of heat
    - No Sound Input/Output built in (Need Speaker Bar for that)
    - EZTune Software Crashes on my PC so can not use that at the moment. (Windows XP SP3 with AMD Catalyst 8.11 for ASUS HD4870 X2-TOP GFX Card)

Summary: I had 2 specific things I wanted when shopping for a new monitor for my PC. The first one was I wanted a monitor that can be used for others devices such as game consoles. The second was I wanted a monitor that can display at 1920 x 1200 sharply and beautifully for my Graphics Card. (ASUS HD4870 X2-TOP)

This monitor met what I needed. But at the same time did even more then what I asked for.

Dynamic PIP - At first I didn't think I was going to use this often. However after I attached a SlimPS2 on it via Component and put in fighting games and RPGs to it, I found the PIP to be extremely helpeful both in passing time when downloading large files (or waiting for patches for games) or having a map/guide on a smaller screen. This became a feature I used on a regular basis.

Touch Senstive Menu - I was a bit skeptical about this at first. If you watched the CNET video, the guy had a lot of gripes about this such as the lack of memory state if you weren't quick enough for making adjustments and the background sound it generates. But after actually using it and looking through the menu, I found that it wasn't bad at all. The time to make adjustments is plenty of time and once you memorize all the locations in the menu you find it no longer an annoyance. The second part was the sound. My version of the menu came with the ability to control the volume of the sound or even just plain turn it off! I myself kept the sound on but at lowest volume but the option to turn it off is there for those that don't want that chime noise at all.

Profile - Also in the Menu is nice pre-defined profiles such as Game, Picture, Web, Custom User settings and such. These are instantly accessible as soon as you turn on the menu and I used frequently when going between gaming and desktop. For the Game profile, it allows the darks to be darker but without losing details that would force you to adjust contrast and brightness to properly show again. For desktop, I use Web which unlike Game Profile, brings the desktop to be bright as it should be.

Other noteworthy features - Ability to enable and disable UltraResponse. (I use UltraResponse on Games. For those that don't know what UltraResponse is, it basically makes the default 5ms to 3ms. It generally should be used for fast paced games such as FPS and turned off for everything else since it may cause some minor "artifacts" and/or "effects" that you may not like. This feature is disabled by default.

As for the display and how well it...well displays. I am going to say it looks GREAT. Even Excellent. The person who did the CNET Video Review probably knows what he is talking about but when it comes down to what individual people's need such as myself, this monitor blew away all the other monitors I have seen and is a huge leap of what I was originally used to. However if quality is what you aim for and nothing else, you may consider other choices but as it stands, you won't regret purchasing this monitor.

So I praised the monitor a lot. But there are some cons I feel should be noted.

The most important one is the lack of sound input/output. Unless you purchase the Gateway Speaker Bar for this monitor, you will have to use other methods to get sound for game consoles and such. (I used a A/V Switcher to solve this mess since I couldn't find the Speaker Bar as of this writing.)

Another thing is the EZTune Software. I seen this software used on another Gateway Monitor and another PC and it really useful. In additiona, it adds more functionality to the Dynamic PIP such as if your mouse moves over the PIP area of the screen on your desktop, it actually makes it disappear or transparent until you move your mouse away from it. It is also draggable with the mouse as well. Very nice.

But...as I said in above in the Cons portion, it simply crashes on my PC. Looking at EZTune support site, it seems my GFX Card is not compatibile for this software. That or a conflict with AMD Catalyst 8.xx Software. But for those of you who can run this software without crashing, its highly recommended you use this along with this monitor!

Finally, it does generate a lot of heat. Pairing this a gaming PC, can make the room a bit too stuffy even during Winter. (Before I got this monitor, my old monitor and gaming PC didn't really make too much of a problem with heating my room. But with this monitor, I could really feel it.)

Other then that, I highly recommend this monitor and you won't regret it!

Pros: good screen when it works

Cons: unreliable, should have never put in on the market without further test
