"Great monitor!"on by benchmarker
Pros 4 USB jacks, multiple video inputs, DVI & VGA cables, AND it looks great!
Cons Color varies between each monitor. Had to replace one due to backlight bleeding and dead pixel.
Summary I LOVE this monitor. The 4 USB ports (two on side, two underneath) are great for quick hookups like an iPod or USB memory stick (side ports). I also use my USB wifi and external HDD on the two underneath. The color on this monitor is very rich and give you plenty of room to customize it the way you like it. It also includes several presets. The touch-button setup is nice but annoying as they tend to be oversensitive at times. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this monitor.Updated
On the monitor I had to replace, Gateway offers "Advance Return" in which you provide your cc number and they ship out the replacement first with a return shipping label for your old one. Pretty slick AND fast. Two days!
Pros Great picture! Low price & light weight
Cons none that I can think ok
Summary OK Here is my story. I have owned the older Mac 23" LCD for 5 years and paid nineteen hundred for it. It was losing its brightness and just didn’t have its wow anymore. So I put it on Ebay and it sold for five hundred & sixty dollars. With that in mind I went to Best Buy and they honored the Gateway.com price of five hundred seventy nine dollars with free shipping. I also had my Rewards Card, and I had the fifty dollar gift card coupon for any LCD Purchase over two hundred forty nine dollars. So for less then five hundred and twenty bucks I own this monitor! So Ebayer’s stop paying so much!!! Also dont let anyone tell you that its cheaply made I love how light it is. Also it tilts forwads and backwads & spins & slides up and down the base.
Pros Hi Resolution - Lots of Real Estate
Fantastic Clarity and View-ability
Great Stand and Mounting Options
Cons Built with Some Cheep Components
Capacitors Fail and Prevent Boot-up
Summary I have one of these, and it is a great monitor, when it is working. I mean, it has great clarity and an interesting resolution (not all graphic cards can support).
They have a big problem with the cheep capacitors they use, and my monitor started taking longer and longer to boot up until one day it wouldn't. I replaced the capacitors with their high quality counter parts and that did the trick!
Unfortunately one day the internal fuse on the power board blew. I thought that maybe it might be an anomaly and replaced it... but it was the sign of something more involved.
I troubleshot it to the point of narrowing the culprit to either the transformer, or bridge rectifier.
Then things went from bad to worst... I left the monitor face down on a rubber mat and ended up letting it sit there for a few weeks. When I got back to it, much to my horror, the rubber mat stuck to the bezel of the monitor and it made a mess. Needless to say, I won't do that ever again.
I am always meticulous and very careful, but I don't know what black cloud was hanging over me because while cleaning the monitor face I put a scratch or mark in it. Now I'm not sure if it's an actual scratch, a mark that can be rubbed out, or what... but I'm not touching it again for fear that I'll completely destroy it :-)
At this point I am embarrassed and have decided to sell it for parts. If anyone is interested here's a link:
Anyway, that's my Gateway story, I hope that it will make some of you feel better about any calamities that are happening in your life!
Would I buy this monitor again knowing what I know... Yes, but only if the price were around $295.
Pros Looks great. Solid. Multiple video inputs, usb 2 hub. Pivots and swivels.
Cons Lack of HDMI.
Summary Looks great all the time for me. Been using this monitor heavily for 6 years now and have never had an issue. Touch sensitive buttons work flawlessly. Love the addition of component, s & composite video to connect other devices to it. USB hub adds additional input options. Can view in portrait mode.
Pros Looks good, when it works!
Cons Check the internet forums, bad capacitors that run out in 12 months or so.
