"Poor power button design is a dealbreaker"

by gkostheimer on September 27, 2006

    Pros: image quality

    Cons: flimsy build quality

Summary: Stay away from this product. Like many others, I was very happy with the picture quality on this monitor. However, 4 weeks out of warranty, the small round power button on the front of the monitor broke (disappearing into the case) which renders the whole monitor useless. HP customer support couldn't care less--they tried to sell me another monitor. HP doesn't even offer any kind of paid-for repair service that would help me recover part of my investment. Since I can see from Google searches that the power button problem is common with the HP F2105 (many are breaking inside the warranty after only light use), you would do well to trust this product no longer than its warranty period.

I was quite frustrated when my button broke 4 weeks out of the warranty and mine was even a refurb so it only had 90 days. But it turns out the problem can be fixed quite easily. If you take the cover off and remove a few things to get to the button you'll see that the button was once supported by these two flimsy rods that the button pivots on. It's a really poor design (and it was done that way so the button could light up). Just use silicon to fill in the area between the pivot point and the button. Let dry and it should last for a good long time.

I`m having the same problem with the on/off button. I am still on the phone with people from India about this problem. I have received another F2105 from them, but when I plug it in, the monitor goes to sleep. When I unplug the DVI cable, it says "check the video cable", I tried to turn off the computer and then turn it on again with no result. I`m sending the new monitor back to them. Let`s see what will happen with monitor #3.
