Cons uneven lighting, needs calibration
Summary For general computing, watching videos, etc it works great. For things like graphics editing though, you may want to look elsewhere.
The monitor's built in range of brightness and contrast didn't quite cut it; using photo friday's monitor calibration image, colors x/y/z (f3f3f3/fafafa/ffffff) were indistinguishable even at the extremes of contrast and brightness. A software calibrator that runs in the background was able to fix this though, as well as color balance issues.
The other problem with this monitor is the uneven lighting. The monitor seems to be lit from the bottom, so pure white (ffffff) at the bottom of the screen looks light gray (almost ececec) at the top.
Pros Good Picture. Stable big platform base. Works for everything I use it for. Gaming, CAD, Office, Web etc.. normal stuff.
Cons Should have got 2.
Fairly thick surround. I don't like the glowing power button. Good news, you can turn it off in the settings so obviously I am not the only one.
Summary All around good crisp clear monitor that has outlasted and exceeded my expectations. It will probably die right after I right this review and then my next few monitors will probably have dead pixels or something to make up for this HP being so perfect and lasting for so long.
Pros I like the price ($220), bright screen, like my HP laptops, works ok when switched between two laptops, decent resolution.
Cons 60Hz is stated optimal - sometimes causes a jitter in brightness, wobbly base
Summary Good monitor for general use
Pros The exterior appearance is quite nice and the picture is quite good.
Cons It is now GARBAGE. After 18 months of recreational home use the monitor DIED and HP said that since it is after their very short 1 year warranty, they will not repair or replace it. $349.99 dollars GONE.
Summary No matter how good or bad a monitor is the company that makes them (HP) must stand behind them against manufacturing defects longer than 1 year.
Imagine if your SONY TV stopped working after 1 year and they said they wouldn't help you... you just know that wouldn't happen and until HP steps up and changes this lack of respect for their products, themselves and you the customer there is no reason to buy HP products. Almost all of the other computer companies that produce monitors have a 3 year warranty and they are as good or better than HP monitors.
Pros large wide screen display also stylish design
Cons software, speakers
Summary this monitor is a good buy if you're looking for a good large monitor. the 5 degree tilt is plenty enough in my opionion any further and the display may not look to good. the speakers arnt the greatest, but are you buying a monitor for the display or the speakers? the color is brilliant, if you have an nvidia card then adjest the viberance and you'll see the display really shine.
